Pike, who co-founded the band and wrote many of their early lyrics, died in Fairhaven, Massachusetts on June 3, 2007, drowning in Buzzards Bay shortly after a show in Providence, Rhode Island. The band decided to continue following Pike's death, but have never permanently replaced him and have subsequently had several drummers, including Cameron Wisch (on "The Rhumb Line") and Gabriel Duquette (on "The Orchard").
The released their debut full length album The Rhumb Line in 2008. The band released their second full length album, The Orchard on August 24th, 2010. In February 2012, cellist and keyboardist Alexandra Lawn, an original member of the group, left the band.

You and I Know
Ra Ra Riot Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Every so that I don't mind
Oh no no no no
Said I, well I
Don't, don't wanna know
Even if you say, love, that you
Wanna find my heart, oh
Tell me that you never wanted to
I would unburden you from this
Unaware, you, well I need to.
Don't, don't leave a note
Even when you say you know that you
Wanna find my heart, oh
Tell me that you never wanted to
Don't, don't leave a note
Even if you say you know that you
Wanna find my heart, oh
Tell me that you never wanted to.
You and I, you and I know.
You and I, you and I know.
You and I, you and I know.
You and I, you and I know.
You and I, you and I know.
You and I, you and I know.
You and I, you and I know.
Don't wanna know.
Even when you say you know that you
Wanna find my heart, oh
Tell me that you never wanted to
Don't, don't leave a note
Even if you say you know that you
Wanna find my heart, oh
Tell me that you never wanted to.
In Ra Ra Riot's song "You and I Know," the lyrics seem to depict a complicated and hesitant relationship. The lyrics begin with an attempt to clear one's eyes from something, perhaps a past hurt or misunderstanding. The singer then says they don't want to know even if the other person claims they want to find their heart. This could indicate a fear of being hurt again or a lack of trust in the other person's intentions. The singer then asks the other person to promise never to have wanted to hurt them, showing a vulnerability and need for reassurance.
The chorus of the song, "You and I, you and I know," seems to acknowledge that the relationship is complicated and that there are underlying issues that both parties are aware of. The repetition of this line could also symbolize a lack of resolution or a desire to keep things hidden and unresolved.
The song's repeated use of the phrase "Don't leave a note" may suggest a fear of abandonment or communication breakdown. The overall message of the song seems to be one of hesitancy and fear in a relationship where both parties are aware of underlying issues but are unable or unwilling to resolve them.
