Chapar gache chapa hoye phuti
Borer belay maa go
Daler pore kochi pathay Kori luto puti
Tokhon Tumi amaar kache haro
Tokhon ki maa chinthe amay paro
Tumi dako khoka kothay ore
Ami shudhu haashi chupti kore
Chaapar tola diye
Ashbe jokhon pithe the chul phele
Ekhan diye pujor ghore jabe
Durer theke phuler gondho pabe
Tokhon Tumi bujhte parbe na she
Tomar khokar gayer gondho ashe
Dupur Bela Mahabharata hate
Boshebe Tumi shobar khava hole
Gacher chaya ghorer janalate
Porbe eshe tomar pithe kole
Ami amar chotto chaya khani
Dolabo tor boyer pore aani
Tokhon Tumi bujhte parbe na she
Tomar chokhe khokar chaya bhashe
Shondhe balay prodip khani jele
Jokhon tumi jabe goyal ghore
Tokhon ami phuler kela khela tup kore maa
Abar ami tomar khoka hobo
Golpo bolo tomay giye kobo
Tumi bolbe dushtu chili kotha?
Ami bolbo bolbo na sheye kothay.
The song "Lukochuri" by Rabindranath Tagore is a beautiful composition that speaks of a playful and innocent childhood love. The lyrics describe the whimsical moments shared by a young boy and girl who play hide and seek among the trees and bushes. The song begins with the boy asking the girl if she wants to play a game of hiding, and as they play together, the girl ends up hiding behind a cluster of bushes which makes her head look like a bird's.
As they continue to play, the boy imagines the girl's mother calling out to her, and wonders if she thinks of him as well. When the girl completes her bath and strolls back to their play area with a fragrance of flowers, the song tells us that she is slowly becoming aware of the boy's feelings towards her. However, the boy continues to playfully keep his emotions hidden while they continue to enjoy each other's company.
The song gradually takes a turn towards the end, as the boy talks about the moment when the girl will go away to her husband's house, and he will simply be an insignificant part of her past. Even though he knows that he will never be able to confess his feelings to her, he fondly imagines a future where he will be her son's playmate and tell him stories of their childhood. This bittersweet ending captures the essence of young love, where the memories of an unspoken love remain precious throughout life.
