Everything Changes
Rachel Sermanni Lyrics

You'll be an old girl
And we'll walk the old dark
Down by the sea
EVERYTHING CHANGES
I did not think I'd see you
Not for a long time
And over the sea
EVERYTHING CHANGES
EVERYTHING CHANGES
Everything
Everything moves
EVERYTHING CHANGES
I did not think I wanted
Anything other
Did not think I needed
Anything more
BUT EVERYTHING CHANGES
If you were thinking
I wanted anything other
Than you
I wished for nothing more
BUT EVERYTHING CHANGES
EVERYTHING CHANGES
Everything
Everything moves
EVERYTHING CHANGES
EVERYTHING CHANGES
Everything
Everything moves
EVERYTHING CHANGES
The song "Everything Changes" by Rachel Sermanni portrays a nostalgic look into the future, suggesting that everything is bound to change with time. The song begins with the imagery of two people, an old man, and an old girl, walking down by the sea, which suggests that they have known each other for a long time. The phrase "old dark" could refer to the nightfall or the dark side of old age, and they still walk on by the sea, which could symbolize how they have been through many ups and downs but are still standing strong together. However, as the title suggests, "Everything Changes," and even the things that we believe will remain consistent change with time.
As the song progresses, the singer expresses their surprise at meeting the individual mentioned in the lyrics after a long time. They also express the initial feelings of satisfaction that they didn't want or need anything more than what they had. But as life happens, everything changes, and they begin to feel differently. The repetition of "Everything Changes" towards the end emphasizes the inevitability of change and how it could lead to a shift in one's perspective.
The lyrics of "Everything Changes" are emotional, and the song itself is a reminder of how life is ephemeral, and time waits for no one. The song captures the beauty of growing old with someone, cherishing their presence and companionship, while at the same time acknowledging that everything will change eventually.

This remindes me of my favourite quote: "Omnia mutantur, nihil interit" by Ovid. Translated like: Everything changes, nothing vanishes.
Thank you.

Another masterpiece by Myles O'Reilly. I found Rachel by following his videos. He also did the video of Lisa Hannigan singing "Little Bird" underwater. There is pure alchemy when his visual genius meets musical genius.
