[1] Former member of indie pop duo He Is We
[2] Alternative folk and Country singer
[1]As one half of He Is We, Rachel Taylor endeared countless fans worldwide. They became something of an extended family for the singer and songwriter, and she always kept them in her mind and heart. Now, her latest music speaks directly to them with an honesty thatās rare these days.
In 2012, she became diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease called Ankylosing Spondylitis and underwent chemotherapy in order to combat its effects. Simultaneously, her band He Is We began touring and writing a record with their new singer, so Rachel did what she does best!
Rachel started feverishly writing songs in between her treatments and took to YouTube to communicate the truth to her fans. That music captured her fire in the moment, and she burned brighter than ever in the face of all this adversity. At that point, the singer and songwriter reached out directly to the label, sending the new tunes and her story.
Rachel's 2014 debut EP, Come Alive, for Republic Records echoes the "darker side of pop", as she likes to call it, siphoning strangely melodic hooks through a haze of intense production. She's equally likely to name check influences as wide-ranging as A Perfect Circle, Alanis Morissette, and Imagine Dragons.
[2] Rachel Taylor has honed her creative blend of alternative folk, 1950ās country and thoughtful unplugged pop, through Jazz performance and the study of songwriting at Berklee College of music. Mentored by critically acclaimed singer / songwriter / producer, Michael Been, Rachel has gone on to work with producer/songwriter and grammy winner Charlie Peacock. This musical journey led her to be a founding member of the Indie Roots Folk, girl trio, Maeve, whose music has been in regular rotation on college radio.
Through her love for the art of songwriting, she explores the intimate and challenging portions of her own journey, believing that transparency and revealing what she would rather hide, is the most universal. The result is a beautiful, vulnerable and poignant reflection of human connection.Rachel Taylorās release āHeartbreak is for Everyoneā, produced by Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, is what she believes to be her best work yet. Vocals reminiscent of Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, are what sets this compilation of sultry, haunting and yet familiar songs apart. Itās soaring melodies, combined with profound lyrics and vocals are resonating with her rapidly growing audience.

I've got a heart that's beating softly and it's gasping for air
'Cause I'm alive, but I'm not living
Afraid to show you all the mess I hope deep inside
Gotta knack for holding back and I'm the first one to hide
'Cause I'm alive, but I'm not living
Someone who would take my mind
Off of who I used to be
What I left behind
You picked me up
Oh my dear, you saved me
And you make me feel
Like I'm not so crazy
With you
I come alive with you
I'll breathe you in
And I'll hold you close
And where you are
Is where I'll go
With you
I come alive with you
I come alive with you
You came in and you showed me what a love should be
It was strange, you captivated every part of me
Brought me to life and now I'm living
I never thought that I would find
Someone who would take my mind
Off of who I used to be
What I left behind
You picked me up
Oh my dear, you saved me
And you make me feel
Like I'm not so crazy
With you
I come alive with you
I'll breathe you in
And I'll hold you close
And where you are
Is where I'll go
With you
I come alive with you
I come alive with you
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
You picked me up
Oh my dear, you saved me
And you make me feel
Like I'm not so crazy
With you
I come alive with you
I'll breathe you in
And I'll hold you close
And where you are
Is where I'll go
With you
I come alive with you
I come alive with you
I come alive with you
Oh, oh, oh
I come alive with you
I come alive with you
The lyrics of Rachel Taylor's song "Come Alive" talk about a person who has the appearance of being alive on the outside but is not truly living on the inside. The singer acknowledges that their life is ridden with fears, doubts, insecurities, and internal messiness that they try to hide from others. However, a special person comes into their life and shows them what love is, and this experience has transformed them, making them feel alive for the first time. With this person, they no longer feel crazy, and they come alive.
The chorus of the song expresses the joy and freedom that comes with their newfound love. The singer will inhale their partner's presence, hold them close, and go wherever they go, feeling happy, alive, and free. The song's message is that love can transform a person's life, and with it, they can come alive truly.
This song is a testament to the redemptive power of love. It can heal wounds, annul fears, and bring a person out of their shells. The lyrics of the song are poignant and relatable to anyone who has ever felt like they weren't living life to the fullest. Rachel Taylor's beautiful voice, the song's heartfelt lyrics, and the melody work together to create a song that is both beautiful and inspiring.

This song has always been in my playlist ever since it came out. Back in 2019, I found out something I was not suppose to find out, broke me inside and felt dead.
Fast forward to 2021, my daughter is born. Love songs don't always need to be romantic in meaning right?
