Rachmaninoff playing his concertos is a model of severity, power and expressive subtlety. The Philadelphia Orchestra responds to Rachmaninoff's lapidary and majestic playing with a soaring, voluptuous and mysterious sound. The ghostly slow movement is an example of the perfect osmosis between conductor and pianist. These documents are indispensable and it is not acceptable to love Rachmaninoff's concertos without having heard them by their author.

Operation Save classical music

Great video only one question: why didn’t you put them in order 😂

Classical Music/ /Reference Recording

@Operation Save classical music because the concerto 2 attracts more people who can then discover the others :)

Roland Huettmann

He lived near my place, not far, in a villa at Lake Lucerne. Even these old recordings carry his character, his intenseness, his strength, his delicacy. He created another space for musical expressions, he expanded his personal universe. We all live in our own, but he was reaching out.

Peter

That's the place where he composed Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini

My Little House of Rescues

That's an amazing way to put it. So true!

Stephanie Phillips

My grandfather was an impresario in Cincinnati, and he and Rachmaninoff were friends. I identify deeply with Rachmaninoff's music, and have always thought I must have inherited from my grandfather the commonality of spirit he and Rachmaninoff shared. It is always wonderful to hear R performing his own music.
