Go Slowly
Radiohead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh Maria, come slowly
Come slowly to me
I've been waiting
Patient, patiently

I didn't care but now I can see
That there's a way out
That there's a way out

That there's a way out

That there's a way out
That there's a way out

Overall Meaning

In Radiohead's song Go Slowly, lead singer Thom Yorke addresses Maria, asking her to come slowly to him. He's been waiting patiently for her, and it seems that he's come to a realization in the meantime. Yorke sings "I didn't care but now I can see," indicating that something important has changed for him. He goes on to confidently declare "that there's a way out," repeating the same phrase with a sense of certainty.

The song is open to interpretation, but its general themes of patience and hope seem to suggest that Yorke has been waiting for something to change, and he's now realized that there's a way out of his predicament. The repetition of "that there's a way out" could be a mantra of sorts, a way for Yorke to reinforce this message to himself as well as to Maria.

This song, while not one of Radiohead's most well-known, showcases Yorke's hauntingly beautiful vocals and the band's ability to create a dreamy, introspective atmosphere. Its lyrics, while sparse, are powerful in their simplicity and are open to a variety of interpretations.
