Radiohead signed to EMI in 1991 and released their debut album, Pablo Honey, in 1993; their debut single, "Creep", became a worldwide hit. Radiohead's popularity and critical standing rose with the release of The Bends in 1995. Radiohead's third album, OK Computer (1997), brought them international fame; noted for its complex production and themes of modern alienation, it is acclaimed as a landmark record and one of the best albums in popular music.
Radiohead's fourth album, Kid A (2000), marked a dramatic change in style, incorporating influences from electronic music, jazz, classical music and krautrock. Though Kid A divided listeners, it later attracted wide acclaim. It was followed by Amnesiac (2001), recorded in the same sessions. Hail to the Thief (2003), with lyrics addressing the War on Terror, was Radiohead's final album for EMI.
Radiohead self-released their seventh album, In Rainbows (2007), as a download for which customers could set their own price, to critical and chart success. Their eighth album, The King of Limbs (2011), an exploration of rhythm, was developed using extensive looping and sampling. A Moon Shaped Pool (2016) prominently featured Jonny Greenwood's orchestral arrangements. Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Selway, and O'Brien have released solo albums; in 2021, Yorke and Jonny Greenwood debuted a new band, the Smile.
By 2011, Radiohead had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. Their awards include six Grammy Awards and four Ivor Novello Awards, and they hold five Mercury Prize nominations, the most of any act. Seven Radiohead singles have reached the top 10 on the UK Singles Chart: "Creep" (1992), "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" (1996), "Paranoid Android" (1997), "Karma Police" (1997), "No Surprises" (1998), "Pyramid Song" (2001), and "There There" (2003). "Creep" and "Nude" (2008) reached the top 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Rolling Stone named Radiohead one of the 100 greatest artists of all time, and Rolling Stone readers voted them the second-best artist of the 2000s. Five Radiohead albums have been included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time lists. Radiohead were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

Just as you write my number down
Just as the drinks arrive
Just as they play your favorite song
As your bad day disappears
No longer wound up like a spring
Before you had too much
Come back in focus again
The walls are bending shape
They've got a Cheshire cat grin
All blurring into one
This place is on a mission
Before the night owl
Before the animal noises
Closed circuit cameras
Before you're comatose
Before you run away from me
Before you're lost between the notes
The beat goes round and round
The beat goes round and round
I never really got there
I just pretended that I had
Words are blunt instruments
Words are sawed-off shotguns
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Come on and let it out
Before you run away from me
Before you're lost between the notes
Just as you take the mic
Just as you dance, dance, dance
Jigsaw falling into place
So there is nothing to explain
You eye each other as you pass
She looks back, you look back
Not just once
Not just twice
Wish away the nightmare
Wish away the nightmare
You've got a light, you can feel it on your back
A light, you can feel it on your back
Jigsaw falling into place
The lyrics to Radiohead's "Jigsaw Falling Into Place" are somewhat cryptic, prompting multiple interpretations depending on the listener's perspective. However, at its core, it appears to be a song about seizing the moment and living in the present. The first section of the song describes a moment in which everything seems to align for the singer - a person they are interested in takes their hand, writes down their number as if to call them later, and the drinks arrive at the perfect moment. It seems as though the singer has found some respite from a trying day and is able to "come back and focus again."
The second section of the song takes a darker turn, as the walls of the room begin to bend and blur together. The idea of the walls having a "Cheshire cat grin" invokes a feeling of unease, as if the room itself is conspiring against the singer. Before the night becomes overwhelming and the animal noises and closed-circuit cameras become too much to handle, the singer urges someone else not to run away and become "lost between the notes." The beat of the song goes "round and round," mimicking the cyclical nature of life and music.
The final section of the song returns to the chorus of "Jigsaw falling into place," suggesting that the moments of alignment and feeling like everything is coming together are indeed fleeting and must be appreciated for what they are. The song closes with the singer urging someone to "come on and let it out," perhaps a plea to truly live in the present moment rather than getting lost in regrets over the past or worries about the future.

i feel like this song, and music video in particular, marks a key moment in radiohead history.
since the bands creation, they’ve always only wanted to make music. they didn’t care about stardom or anything like that, but upon ok computers release and phenomenal success, they couldn’t avoid it. their touring of ok computer was incredibly stressful and challenging, and left yorke’s mental health in a terrible state, which was what their song “how to disappear completely” was based on.
once they released their 6th studio album, their record contract was over. they were free. they tried to retire, but even just not working felt weird to them.
so they got back together to make “In Rainbows”.
many of the songs from “In Rainbows” were recordings from years previous, that they wanted to release, but weren’t able to due to their record label. when creating “In Rainbows” they didn’t have these limitations. they were free, which was what they always wanted.
and i feel like this video represents that.
this video doesn’t have any special meaning behind it, it’s just the band members having a blast recording the masterpiece of a song they always wanted to record.
freedom and happiness.
this sounds pretentious as fuck but i just wanted to write this comment to say what i thought about this.
