Punch Lovesick Singalong
Radiohead Lyrics

I wrapped you inside my coat
When they came to fire upon the house
I didn't feel pain
Cause no one can touch me
Now that I'm held in your smile

A beautiful girl
A beautiful girl
Can turn your world into doubt
Sell me a car that goes
Sell me a house that stands
Oh
I never cared before
I never cared before
I never cared before
Before
Before
Before

A beautiful girl
A beautiful girl
Can turn your world into doubt
A beautiful girl
A beautiful girl
Can turn you world into doubt
Yeah
I stood in front of her face

When the first bullet
Was shot

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of "Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong" showcase Thom Yorke's unique ability to convey complex emotions through his lyrics. The singer is in a dangerous situation - "When they came to fire upon the house" - and yet he feels no fear or pain because he is with the person he loves. This person gives him a sense of security and protection. The use of the metaphor of being "wrapped...inside [his] coat" emphasizes this feeling of safety and the strong bond between the couple.

In the second verse, Yorke explores the power that a "beautiful girl" can have over a person. She can "turn your world into doubt," causing the singer to question everything he thought he knew about himself and the world. The repetition of the phrase "I never cared before" implies that the singer was content in his life before he met this girl, but now she has changed everything. The final lines, "I stood in front of her face / When the first bullet / Was shot," hint that the danger from the beginning of the song may have been real and that the singer's love for this woman makes him willing to put himself in harm's way to protect her.

Overall, "Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong" is a song about the transformative power of love and the lengths people will go to protect those they care about.

Me me

on No Surprises

The way i interpret the lyrics: ; Once excitement of youthful perspective,, hopes, dreams are broken, into an almost nihilistic acceptance of patterns world, we coast,….. become a part of the dull hum we swore we never would become part of. Time pulls us forward, wears and tears until we accept. Can not fight against the current yet knowing we swore we would never.
