Something
Radiohead Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I feel better,
I feel better now you've gone

I got better,
I got better, I got strong

I feel better,
I feel better, now there's nothing wrong

I got better,
I got better, I got strong

Tell me something,
Tell me something I don't know

Tell me one thing,
Tell me one thing, let it go

I got something,
I got something heaven knows

I got something,
I got something I don't know

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Radiohead's song "Something in 2-3" are marked by a sense of liberation and emotional healing. The opening lines set the stage: "I feel better, I feel better now you've gone." This seems to suggest that the singer has just emerged from a difficult relationship or perhaps a period of personal turmoil. However, the repeated emphasis on feeling better and getting stronger implies that this experience has ultimately been empowering for them. They then pose a challenge to their listener: "Tell me something I don't know / Tell me one thing, let it go." This could be read as an invitation to connect on a deeper level, to share secrets and vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, the refrain "I got something, I got something" suggests that the singer has found some kind of inner resource or strength that they didn't realize they had before.

Overall, "Something in 2-3" feels like a song about moving on, both from a specific situation and from a pattern of hiding one's true self. The repeated affirmation of feeling better and stronger is a deliberate attempt to break out of old habits and embrace a new way of being. The challenge issued to the listener in the bridge is an acknowledgment that this process of growth and discovery is ongoing - there is always more to learn, more to share, more to let go of.

A heart that's full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won't heal
You look so tired, unhappy
Bring down the government
They don't, they don't speak for us
I'll take a quiet life
A handshake of carbon monoxide

And no alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
Silent, silent

This is my final fit
My final bellyache with

No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises, please

Such a pretty house
And such a pretty garden

No alarms and no surprises (get me out of here)
No alarms and no surprises (get me out of here)
No alarms and no surprises, please (get me out of here)

this song sounds like despair, no hope left just acceptance. it feels like what it feels like to be absoloutly crushed, tears streaming down your face but somehow everything is ok

@BlackAlbino2000

It definitely brings up emotions of sadness and despair and your life being crushed . I always thought it’s about the realization that these socially accepted conforming norms of what we see as having a happy life are merely going to make you more miserable and dull and end up drowning you slowly till your time’s up . If I’d put it very direct , a life lived without surprises is like slow suicide but if you seek further than these norms you get curious about what really matters in your life and this brings you true happiness .
