Radiohead signed to EMI in 1991 and released their debut album, Pablo Honey, in 1993; their debut single, "Creep", became a worldwide hit. Radiohead's popularity and critical standing rose with the release of The Bends in 1995. Radiohead's third album, OK Computer (1997), brought them international fame; noted for its complex production and themes of modern alienation, it is acclaimed as a landmark record and one of the best albums in popular music.
Radiohead's fourth album, Kid A (2000), marked a dramatic change in style, incorporating influences from electronic music, jazz, classical music and krautrock. Though Kid A divided listeners, it later attracted wide acclaim. It was followed by Amnesiac (2001), recorded in the same sessions. Hail to the Thief (2003), with lyrics addressing the War on Terror, was Radiohead's final album for EMI.
Radiohead self-released their seventh album, In Rainbows (2007), as a download for which customers could set their own price, to critical and chart success. Their eighth album, The King of Limbs (2011), an exploration of rhythm, was developed using extensive looping and sampling. A Moon Shaped Pool (2016) prominently featured Jonny Greenwood's orchestral arrangements. Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Selway, and O'Brien have released solo albums; in 2021, Yorke and Jonny Greenwood debuted a new band, the Smile.
By 2011, Radiohead had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide. Their awards include six Grammy Awards and four Ivor Novello Awards, and they hold five Mercury Prize nominations, the most of any act. Seven Radiohead singles have reached the top 10 on the UK Singles Chart: "Creep" (1992), "Street Spirit (Fade Out)" (1996), "Paranoid Android" (1997), "Karma Police" (1997), "No Surprises" (1998), "Pyramid Song" (2001), and "There There" (2003). "Creep" and "Nude" (2008) reached the top 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Rolling Stone named Radiohead one of the 100 greatest artists of all time, and Rolling Stone readers voted them the second-best artist of the 2000s. Five Radiohead albums have been included in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time lists. Radiohead were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

Weird Fishes
Radiohead Lyrics

The bottom of the sea
Your eyes
They turn me
Why should I stay here?
Why should I stay?
I'd be crazy not to follow
Follow where you lead
Your eyes
They turn me
Turn me on to phantoms (way out)
I follow to the edge of the Earth (way out, way out)
And fall off
Yeah, everybody leaves (way out)
If they get the chance (way out)
And this is my chance (way out)
I get eaten by the worms
And weird fishes
Picked over by the worms
And weird fishes
Weird fishes
Weird fishes
I'll hit the bottom
Hit the bottom and escape
Escape
I'll hit the bottom
Hit the bottom and escape
Escape
The lyrics of Radiohead's song Weird Fishes/Arpeggi can be interpreted in different ways, depending on the listener's perspective. Some of the interpretations that have been suggested include themes of love, exploration, and freedom. The beginning lines, "In the deepest ocean, the bottom of the sea, your eyes they turn me" suggest that the singer is drawn to someone or something in a captivated manner. The lines "Why should I stay here? Why should I stay?" can be interpreted as the singer questioning their current situation and considering following the object of their affection even if it seems risky or illogical.
The following line, "I'd be crazy not to follow, follow where you lead" highlights the impulse to take risks and follow one's desires, and the sensation and attraction of the mysterious or the unknown. The line "Turn me on to phantoms" implies that the singer is on a quest for something otherworldly or divine that he/she believes the subject of the song embodies. The imagery in "I follow to the edge of the earth and fall off" could represent the act of following a dream or obsession that ultimately leads to self-destruction or disillusionment. In the final lines, "I get eaten by the worms, weird fishes, get towed by the worms, weird fishes, weird fishes, weird fishes, I'll hit the bottom, hit the bottom and escape, escape," the singer could be musing on the cyclical nature of life, death, and rebirth or the feeling of being trapped but holding onto the hope of escaping.

If they get the chance
When the opportunity arises
And this is my chance

I get eaten by the worms
My body decays after death
Weird fishes
Alien-like aquatic creatures
Get towed by the worms
My lifeless body is transported by these worms
I'll hit the bottom

Hit the bottom and escape

Escape

After looking at the lyrics deeply, I think I figured out what the video means, at least for me.
0:54 The stop motion characters were seeing are the "weird fishes". The lyrics are about a person who's lost faith in themselves. They feel as though they are "At the bottom of the sea". But then all of a sudden, a figure appears in their lives and rekindles the spark inside of their heart. "Your eyes, they turn me". The author asks themselves "Why should I stay here?" implying they'd be crazy not to follow this new person that has resurrected the life inside them 1:47. The wood statue with the skis is the protagonist who falls in love with this amazing figure.
However, we find out tragically that this newfound love was nothing but a fake promise and an illusion. The weird fishies end up betraying them, his soul reduced to a phantom, as the protagonist is led on by this fake plastic love. He follows them to the edge of the Earth and falls off after being abandonned because "Everybody leaves, if they get the chance". Having been betrayed, the main character is once again going through intense feelings of sadness and grief. Indeed, time and time again theyve let themselves been "Eaten by the worms and weird fishes" who attach themsleves on their head 3:17 , the worms and fishes symbolizing the people that have betrayed them in the past, and devoured their soul and life from the inside with their lies and broken promises.
The final lyrics conclude the story with a meaning that is extremely melancholic yet bittersweet at the same time, it perfectly captivates the human condition. No matter what tragic experiences we may endure in our lives, no matter how many people break our hearts, eventually we all hit the bottom and you can only go up from there. "Ill hit the bottom and escape" At 5:02 , the wood statue person rises slowly from the ground, you can see his heart has healed as a new head grows on top of the body with a little bird appearing inside, representing rebirth and life.
Bonus Easter Egg: Weird fishes = Feared wishes
Edit: I'm so happy this resonated with so many people. I recently got a job in Scotland, but it turned out to be a pyramid scheme, they lied to me about so many things. They made me move all the way from France and took advantage of my dream to live and work in the UK . Be careful for the weird fishes, they're everywhere! Stay safe ♥

I am an actuary from Alaska. Every day, I compile statistics on swimming related fatalities in Bristol bay. Often my life seems like a monotone ferris wheel -- people enter and depart life in such calculable ways. I have become so comfortable in my routine that I neglect to remember what makes life unique. But when I listen to this song, I remember ice fishing with my dad, catching my first bluegill, and how wonderful childhood felt. Dad can't remember this anymore, but he always smiles when this song comes on. Thank you Radiohead.

isn't it wonderful how I, a person from Italy, can feel so relatable to a person from Alaska only because of a song? THIS SONG?
