Using food stamps, roaches and roach motels, fly paper,borrowing sugar from your neighbor, taking a note to the corner-store to get cigarettes for mom dukes, walking a whole mile to school solo at the age of seven. I am incapable of watching this without crying. For a period of my life, my family was homeless and dead broke living in the projects in the late 90's parents always behind on rent/ Roaches everywhere. Small dirty apartments. Needing to steal food from the store to eat. Those were the circumstances because my parents made poor decisions, just like GFK. Life was out of his control. Being poor and not being to afford anything. Having to wear goodwill clothes to school. Never wanting to have that experience again, I made something of myself like Ghost did and am now successful and my living room is larger than the roach-filled apartments I grew up in. I cry watching this video because I can remember going through the struggle. Literally, no one has a good life in the projects. Black, white, hispanic, alien, whatever. We are all in the battle and the best you can hope is to grow up and break the cycle.

It is likely that this song resonates with many people that also went through the struggle and then made something of their lives to ensure they never had to brush cockroaches out of their cereal boxes.

This song never mad me sad till my son heard me playin it the other day after watchin the saga & said dad i feel that's how you came up & he was right. I automatically in my head went to those times but reflecting momentarily on those painful years made me immediately see the complete contrast between my life as a child and the lives they have , thank you Jesus that cycle died for they're generation.

I remember back when I was growing up being so jealous of some of my friends that seemed to get whatever they wanted from their parents,and me having to always get used things or my friends hand me down’s because my parents couldn’t afford to buy me everything my friends got. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized that even though I was jealous of things my friends got, my parents worked hard and made sure we always had a roof over our heads and clothes on our back and food in our stomachs and everything else we needed to survive. I’m so thankful for having great parents that did everything they could and sacrificed so much to make sure us kids didn’t go without all those things we needed to survive.

This song hits me hard my mom killed herself when I was 4 years old grandma had to raise me she had 8 kids. I was walking in oklahoma and I had no food thought of this song.everyone is dead and gone now. I just cried so hard God bless 🙌

This song is so real it’ll touch any one whose struggled anyone who knows that feeling of being a kid wth adult problems and just appreciating the small things being together w the cousins , having enough food holding eachother crying well our parents fight and we wonder if this is the night we lose a parent I’ll never forget those nights I was 5-14 yo reassuring all the kids well being a kid myself , but we made it ❤ every morning I’d wake up check on the kids then the drunk adults make sure no one was arrested or badly injured I’d feel like we made it guys another traumatic night we all survived , after yrs and yrs of it the crying stopped it was just the norms , now I’m 24 with a son he’s never seen anything I’d seen and listening to this song brought it all back all those clueless nights we just wanted our family to wake up safe & happy with food that’s all we ever wanted and I’m so glad we all made it thru already broken cycles ❤
