Six Little Ducks
Raffi Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Six little ducks that I once knew
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack-quack, quack, quack
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack

Down to the river they would go
Wibble wobble, wibble wobble to and fro
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack-quack, quack, quack
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack

Home from the river they would come
Wibble wobble, wibble wobble, ho-hum-hum
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with a quack, quack, quack
Quack, quack, quack-quack, quack, quack
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack

Six little ducks that I once knew
Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too
But the one little duck with the feather on his back
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack

Quack, quack, quack-quack, quack, quack
He led the others with his quack, quack, quack

Overall Meaning

The song "Six Little Ducks" by Raffi is a very popular children's nursery rhyme. The song starts with the repetition of six little ducks for emphasis, then describes the different characteristics of each duck, "fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too". However, the one duck that stands out is the one with the feather on his back, as he leads the others with his quack, quack, quack. The song then goes on to describe the ducks' journey down to the river, with the wibbling and wobbling reflecting the ducks' movements. Once again, the one duck leads the others with his quack, quack, quack. The ducks then return home from the river, and the one duck with the feather on his back continues to lead the others with his quack, quack, quack as they make their way back home.

The lyrics of the song are simple and repetitive, which makes it an easy song for children to learn and sing along to. The meaning behind the song is not complex, as it is simply describing the journey of six ducks led by one duck with a feather on his back. However, the significance of the song lies in the way that it captures children's imaginations, making them excited about the ducks' adventure.
