Lay My Body Down
Rag'n'Bone Man Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Is a little bit more rope
To wrap around my throat
I'm in trouble
I'm in trouble
And all I'm gasping for
To heal the hearts I broke
I'm in trouble
I'm in trouble
When you lay my body down
When you throw me in the ground
Don't be sorry
When you lay my body down
When you throw me in the ground
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
Turn your heart
To the trail
Of souls behind me
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
All the fearful eyes
Stay burned upon my mind
The gift they left behind
All my troubles
All my troubles
Still they find the words
Ring louder than my thoughts
Lay heavy as a curse
I'm in trouble
I'm in trouble
When you lay my body down
When you throw me in the ground
Don't be sorry
When you lay my body down
When I'm buried in the ground
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
Turn your heart
To the trail
Of souls behind me
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
These are my confessions
I'm singing out my dying words
These are my confessions
Make peace before I hit the dirt
These are my confessions
Hear all my sins laid down in verse
These are my confessions
Oh, these are my confessions
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
Turn your heart
To the trail
Of souls behind me
Save your prayers
Don't shed a tear, don't shed a tear for me
The song "Lay My Body Down" by Rag'n'Bone Man is a hauntingly beautiful piece that delves into themes of self-destruction, acceptance, and redemption. The lyrics are centered around the idea of facing the consequences of one's actions and finding peace in the face of mortality.
The opening lyrics, "All I'm looking for is a little bit more rope to wrap around my throat" speak to the singer's desire to end his own life, suggesting that he is in a dark place emotionally. In the next stanza, he highlights the consequences of his actions, stating that he is in trouble and has broken hearts. The singer's tone is remorseful, and he is seeking forgiveness and atonement.
The chorus of the song speaks to the inevitability of his death and suggests that there is no need to mourn for him when he is gone. He asks for prayers to be directed towards those who have gone before him and left trails of souls.
The singer then confesses his sins, singing that these are his confessions and that he wants to make peace before he dies.
Overall, "Lay My Body Down" is a poignant look into the human condition and the consequences of our actions. It speaks to the importance of accepting responsibility for our actions and seeking forgiveness before it's too late.

He has an incredible voice. He should be more widely known.
Raymond Reaper
I agree. His voice is incredibly good.Even though he is known but he deserves more.
Alex Hood
Him, Dead South, Steeldrivers, and much more are very underrated and better than mainline music, despite low popularity
Joseph Posada
Perhaps He is already rich beyond What we can perceive. The moments in time, this coming together of musicians to play a song for us is truly priceless. Please look up the video of his cover of Paul Simon's great hit, 50 ways to leave your Lover. It's spot on, but the closeups of all the musicians involved create a wonderful Atmosphere
Calvin Neal, Jr.
But he deserves the trappings that less talented receive.
Joseph Posada
Let's enjoy him in this way. Super Stardom sucks
