Rain
Rag'n'Bone Man Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It's taken flight with the wings I've worn
The candlelight has died before the dawn
I came here across the sea
I had a fate that was owed to me
I didn't know what I was looking for
Now the rain is coming down
Since then my eyes have changed
My points of view are rearranged
The dreams I had have been left along the way
Now the rain is coming down
Now the rain is coming down
If you saw the rain you will harvest the storm
But our hearts were half formed and roaring for past thorns
The rain fell, we couldn't make it stop
We were acting like these people we were not
It was meant to be perfection
I could see it, a reflection of everything I've learned
Cards played, hands shaking
But until you've lost your nerve felt the road swerve out from beneath
You can't feel the piece of feeling stationed
I found you after a lifetime of searching
But after the lifeline is caught comes the working
'Til it's gone wrong, it can never go right
'Til you been blind you can't recognize sight
You can't fight the rain
Better get to like the rain
Clear skies right now
But tonight the rain will fall down
Drink the rain grow tall a flinch and drink away
You'll fall prey to the water
I should've checked the cards before I played
I should've known that I could still be saved
What kind of game is this to be gamblin' with my happiness?
Now the rain is coming down
Now the rain is coming down
Now the rain is coming down
Now the rain is coming down
The lyrics of Rag'n'Bone Man's song Rain tell a story of overcoming personal struggles and accepting the unpredictable nature of life. The first verse talks about a dream that has taken flight, but now the candlelight has died before the dawn, leaving the singer feeling lost and unsure of what they were looking for. The chorus refers to the metaphorical rain coming down, representing the hardships of life that the singer has faced since coming across the sea, causing them to change their perspective and leaving their dreams behind.
The second verse talks about a past relationship that didn't work out, with the line "If you saw the rain you will harvest the storm" alluding to the idea that the struggles and hardships encountered in the relationship eventually led to its downfall. The lyrics also touch upon the inevitability of mistakes in life, with the line "I should've checked the cards before I played."
The overall message of the song is one of acceptance of life's difficulties, with the repeated refrain "better get to like the rain" urging the listener to embrace the challenges and growth that come with difficult times.

Oh, my love, we almost had it all
Oh, so high we rose
We were bound to fall
Through all this
I never noticed
I never noticed
The clouds gather round
Oh, how fast we fall
How slow we drown
You pray for the storm of your life
It's over and nothing survived
Hard came the rain, rain
Washed all the love right out of your veins, veins
I watched the flood run in and take your hand from mine
I watched you save your own life
We grew life
Two broken souls entwined
Same heartbeat
I feel fell out of time
You pray for the storm of your life
It's over and nothing survived
Hard came the rain, rain
Washed all the love right out of your veins, veins
I watched the flood run in and take your hand from mine
I watched you save your own life
I beg, I beg but you turn me away
To you there was nothing to say
I beg, I beg that you turn me away
To you there was nothing to say
You pray for the storm of your life
It's over and nothing survived
Hard came the rain, rain
Washed all the love right out of your veins, veins
I watched the flood run in and take your hand from mine
I watched you save your own life
