Wolves
Rag'n'Bone Man Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I don't wanna drown no more
I'm sick of the same old people
The kind that'll sell your soul
Trade it for a shining stone
Ain't nothing in this life for free
Running from the greatest evil
It finally dawned on me
A man's gotta fight temptation

Keep the wolves from the door
I hear them scratching like I don't know better
Won't you keep the wolves from the door
It won't be long before I cave in and open up the

And I don't wanna go back home
Too many staring faces
Wishing they could drag me down
Waiting to pull me under
I've shaken off my chains
But I still feel those shackles
Living inside of me
I know I've gotta fight temptation

Keep the wolves from the door
I hear them scratching like I don't know better
Won't you keep the wolves from the door
It won't be long before I cave in and open up the

Yo, money's short like my temper
But the bills still keep on coming
Staying on the grind January till December
Tryna lace this beats on a shoestring budget
Rent's due so I'm raiding the copper jar
Hard on the hustle for the sterling
Going all out, Putting work in
It's an uphill struggle but I'm working
I was homeless, having to sleep rough
On the streets feeling like I need to be drunk
I'm tryna turn grass roots to a tree trunk
When the man are only in it for the free lunch
See us we only deal with the real stuff
Brother, 'cause all that glitters ain't gold
Plus, I can hear the wolves outside my door
But money can't buy my soul, no

Keep the wolves from the door
I hear them scratching like I don't know better
Won't you keep the wolves from the door
It won't be long before I cave in and open up the

Keep the wolves from the door
I hear them scratching like I don't know better
Won't you keep the wolves from the door
It won't be long before I cave in and open up the door

Overall Meaning

In Rag'n'Bone Man's song "Wolves," the singer is expressing his desire to fight against temptation and to not let himself cave in. The lyrics compare the temptation to wolves that are scratching at his door, trying to get in and take over. He speaks about the people who are always trying to bring him down and take advantage of him, even if it means selling his soul for money. The chorus repeats the phrase, "Keep the wolves from the door," which becomes a metaphor for not giving in to temptation.

Throughout the song, the artist references his past struggles with homelessness and poverty. He talks about how he had to fight his way to where he is today and how he cannot let himself fall back into old habits. He speaks about the importance of staying true to himself and not getting caught up in material possessions or fame.

The rap verse in the middle of the song provides a unique perspective on the lyrics. The rapper speaks about his own struggles with money and how he has to work hard just to make ends meet. He too is fighting against temptation, but in his case, it's the temptation to give up and not keep going. He emphasizes that money can't buy his soul and that he will not let himself be taken advantage of.

Overall, "Wolves" is a powerful song about self-control, perseverance, and the importance of staying true to oneself.

how many people have had that expierence where you start to get tired of the music you always listen to and nothing interests you anymore but you cant find any new music that grabs your attention so you keep playing the same old songs anyway for lack of a better option, and this goes on anywhere from a few days to months and then theres that one magical moment where you find new music that is fantastic? well i was just like that and then i decided to check out this artists other work besides human, and its like fuckin christmas morning.
