Renegades of Funk
Rage Against the Machine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now
We're the renegades of this time and age
This is the time and age of renegades
Renegades of this time and age
This is the time and age of renegades
Right down through the Middle Ages
Planet earth kept going through changes
And then no renaissance came, and times continued to change
Nothing stayed the same, but there were always renegades
Like Chief Sitting Bull, Tom Paine
Dr. Martin Luther King, Malcom X
They were renegades of their time and age
The mighty renegades
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
From a different solar system many many galaxies away
We are the force of another creation
A new musical revelation
And we're on this musical mission to help the others listen
And groove from land to land singin' electronic chants like
Zulu nation
Revelations
Destroy all nations
Destroy all nations
Destroy all nations
Destroy all nations
Destroy all nations
Destroy all nations
Now renegades are the people with their own philosophies
They change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
We're the renegades we're the people
With our own philosophies
We change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
C'mon
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
We're poppin', sockin', rockin' puttin' a side of hip-hop
Because where we're goin' there ain't no stoppin'
Poppin', sockin', puttin' a side of hip-hop
Because where we're goin' there ain't no stoppin'
Poppin', sockin', rockin' puttin' a side of hip-hop
'Cause we're poppin', sockin', rockin' puttin' a side of hip-hop
Poppin', sockin', rockin' puttin' a side of hip-hop
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
We're teachers of the funk
And not of empty popping
We're blessed with the force and the sight of electronics
With the bass, and the treble the horns and our vocals
'Cause every time I pop into the beat we get fresh
There was a time when our music
Was something called the Big Street beat
People would gather from all around
To get down to the big sound
You had to be a renegade those days
To take a man to the dance floor
Say jam sucker (jam sucker)
Say jam sucker (jam sucker)
Say move sucker (move sucker)
Say groove sucker (move sucker)
Say dance sucker (dance sucker)
Say dance sucker (dance sucker)
Now move sucker (move sucker)
Now move sucker (move sucker)
Say jam sucker (jam sucker)
Say jam sucker (jam sucker)
Say move sucker (move sucker)
Say groove sucker (move sucker)
Say dance sucker (dance sucker)
Say dance sucker (dance sucker)
Now move sucker (move sucker)
Now move sucker (move sucker)
A weh weh weh weh woer
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
A weh weh weh weh woer
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
A weh weh weh weh woer
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
A weh weh weh weh woer
We're the renegades of funk
We're the renegades of funk
The lyrics of the song Renegades of Funk by Rage Against the Machine are a call to action and a celebration of "renegades" throughout history, who have challenged the status quo and paved the way for change. The repeated refrain of "no matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now" is a defiant statement of the song's message. The lyrics also make reference to specific historical figures such as Chief Sitting Bull, Tom Paine, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X, who are celebrated as renegades for their contributions to social and political change.
The song's chorus, "We're the renegades of funk," is a nod to the band's own musical style which blends elements of rock, punk, and funk. The verses also make reference to the group's musical mission, as they reference a "musical revolution" and a "new musical revelation." The song's repeated use of the word "destroy" may be interpreted as a call to dismantle oppressive systems and institutions.
Overall, the lyrics of Renegades of Funk serve as a rallying cry for social and political change, and a celebration of those who have led the charge throughout history.

@Nick Van Nyhuis Politics are flawed by design in the fact that the system provides a necessary emphasis in our ability to 'make mistakes' and waver from a righteous path that we'll always seek, yet never obtain. Aside from one man who's walked this earth. The pursuit of happiness is the greatest example of this from an American persepective. The result is something that feels needed... yet equally oppressive by failed displays of standards in all areas of government of every modern politicized country or sovereignty. It's only natural, we're flawed before we've become a thought in our parents minds. Seek the path and spread his word if you know of whom I speak of, music like this will always have relevancy even in peace time unfortunately.
This cycle always highlights deeper systematic flaws within our own individual borders. Which then trickles down to self reflection if someone cares enough to recognize their own faults that feed into a plethora of issues in everyday life. We the people are the root of the problem. The only cure is love and kindness which ironically isn't our choice by nature. It's an instinctual bond passed down to all of us as a reminder of who our creator really is at the core of everything, despite humanity's history of suffering... and equally opposing beauty in all things that are blessed with the gift of life. Peace be with you stranger and God Bless ✝️✌️
