DeVaughn's musical story began with his mother's vinyl collection. "I always loved music so I would sneak into her record collection when she wasn't around and play her stuff." DeVaughn's father, noted jazz musician Abdul Wadud was also an influence. DeVaughn knew at an early age that he would become an entertainer.
DeVaughn graduated from High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland; then headed to nearby Coppin State. It was the first day of college that changed the course of his life. "I saw a group of guys standing outside singing, Boyz II Men style," remembers DeVaughn. "I just went up there and started harmonizing with them. Before I knew what was going on, I was in a group, cutting class to write lyrics and record." After winning $2,000.00 in a talent show at Bar None, a Washington D.C. nightclub, DeVaughn decided to go for broke and invested all of his winnings into a CD burner. Several independent releases led to a showcase with Jive Records, and the career was on it's way.

Somewhere like that
Would you mind?
Would you mind? Sing
I was on I-95 on my way to Mickey D's
When my back right tire went flat
That's when this sexy little thing with a pearl tongue ring
Now she had a hourglass figure, no sign of a man
And all she said when she offered a ride was
Hey baby listen, you can ride on one condition
Act right when you get inside
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
You gotta know how to act, when to jump in the back
You gotta touch me like you wanna be touched
Like it ain't too much for you
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
You gotta know how to act, when to jump in the back
You gotta touch me like you wanna be touched
Like it ain't too much for you, babe
Now when I jumped in that's when she begin
Rubbin' and a touchin' on me
Then she stopped the car, told me to drive
'Cause she had a little trick from me to see
So I followed her directions to turn where she said
Not worryin' 'bout where we supposed to be
And as I got closer, all I heard was the words in my head
That she said to me, see
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
You gotta know how to act, when to jump in the back
You gotta touch me like you wanna be touched
Like it ain't too much for you
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
You gotta know how to act, when to jump in the back
You gotta touch me like you wanna be touched
Like it ain't too much for you
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
You gotta know how to act, when to jump in the back
You gotta touch me like you wanna be touched
Like it ain't too much for you
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
You gotta know how to act, when to jump in the back
You gotta touch me like you wanna be touched
Like it ain't too much for you, baby
I'm from the Red Light District
Have you been there before?
Come on let's go I'll take you
And leave you sprung for more
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
Like it ain't too much for you
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
You gotta know how to act, when to jump in the back
You gotta touch me like you wanna be touched
Like it ain't too much for you
She said if you want to ride in my Cadillac
You gotta know how to act, when to jump in the back
You gotta touch me like you wanna be touched
Like it ain't too much for you
The song "Cadillac" by Raheem DeVaughn tells the story of a man who is stranded on I-95 with a flat tire when a beautiful woman with a Cadillac pulls up and offers him a ride. She sets certain conditions for the ride, which include touching her in a way that shows he really wants to be with her. The woman takes him to the Red Light District, where she promises to leave him "sprung for more."
The lyrics of the song suggest a sexual theme, with the woman asking the man to touch her in a certain way that shows his desire for her. However, there is also an element of power dynamics at play, with the woman setting conditions for the ride and taking the lead in the sexual encounter. The Red Light District mentioned in the song adds an additional layer of eroticism and danger.
Overall, "Cadillac" is a seductive and sensual song that explores themes of sexual desire, power dynamics, and the allure of danger and adventure.
