DeVaughn's musical story began with his mother's vinyl collection. "I always loved music so I would sneak into her record collection when she wasn't around and play her stuff." DeVaughn's father, noted jazz musician Abdul Wadud was also an influence. DeVaughn knew at an early age that he would become an entertainer.
DeVaughn graduated from High Point High School in Beltsville, Maryland; then headed to nearby Coppin State. It was the first day of college that changed the course of his life. "I saw a group of guys standing outside singing, Boyz II Men style," remembers DeVaughn. "I just went up there and started harmonizing with them. Before I knew what was going on, I was in a group, cutting class to write lyrics and record." After winning $2,000.00 in a talent show at Bar None, a Washington D.C. nightclub, DeVaughn decided to go for broke and invested all of his winnings into a CD burner. Several independent releases led to a showcase with Jive Records, and the career was on it's way.

It's that feelin' that won't go away
And if I touch your soul
When I make my mark, I'm here to stay
I love you girl, yeah
I need you girl, yeah
You're my every day to day
I sleep by the phone
Waitin' for your call
I'm prepared to give my all to you
Love (love)
Don't come easy
(No no, no no, no no)
Gotta put in work for play
(Oh baby, oh baby)
Gotta make sure you're ready for pain
(Oh baby)
Love don't come easy
Gotta sacrifice every day
Gotta make sure you're willin' to change
Oh love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love
(Love, love, love, love, love, love, love)
(Love, love, love, love, love)
Oh love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love
Baby if I was to stay here all night
Promise me, we can build a family
Yeah baby
All my life I dreamed of that one special person
Baby are you worth it?
You're the closest thing to perfect
I sleep by the phone
Waiting for your call
I'm prepared to give you all
Love (Oh no baby)
Don't come easy
(Love don't come that easy)
Gotta put in work for play
(Ooh yeah)
Gotta make sure you're ready for pain
Love don't come easy
(Love, I cry for you baby)
Gotta sacrifice every day
Gotta make you're willin' to change
(Love, love, love, love)
Oh love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love
(Love, love, love, love, love, love, love)
(Love, love, love, love, love)
Oh love, love, love, love, love, love
Love, love, love, love, love
Oh la-la-la-la
La-la-la, la-la-la
Don't come easy
Oh la-la-la, la-la-la
