Shameful Company
Rainbow Kitten Surprise Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Was I born a stone?
heavy to hold and cold in the hands
that you let me to warm in the sun

Was I born alone?
Have I recently developed a propensity to push people away?
Am I okay with that?
Take it any way you want to,
she lit a fire in your head, standing with a flower in her hair,
and alcohol plus information often makes it, complicated.
So you'll hate me, make love, lately I've spent my days in daydreams waking you, me, saving every heartbeat, word, line that you ever gave to me, cause fair is a weather condition.

If you're cold, go inside,
if you're tired, go to sleep,
if you're weak, come to me, and find shameful company.
If you're cold, go inside,
if you're tired, go to sleep,
if you're weak, come to me, and find shameful company.

We were young, dumb, taking our chance and making romance
and breaking our promises
Trying to be and failing miserably,
but am I too late, or hearts to your spades?
If I don't suit you, then what do you want from me?
So we're not written in the stars but I'm okay with that,
I'm okay with anything.

Take it any way you want to, she lit a fire in your head, standing with a flower in her hair, and alcohol plus information often makes it, complicated.
So you'll hate me, make love, lately I've spent my days in daydreams waking you, me, saving every heartbeat, word, line that you ever gave to me, cause fair is a weather condition.

If you're cold, go inside, if you're tired, go to sleep, if you're weak, come to me, and find shameful company.
If you're cold, go inside, if you're tired, go to sleep, if you're weak, come to me, and find shameful company.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Shameful Company" are complex and introspective, with the powerful theme of self-reflection and the struggle to connect with others. The opening lines, "Was I born a stone? / Heavy to hold and cold in the hands / That you let me to warm in the sun" suggest a sense of detachment and isolation from the world. The following lines convey a deep sense of self-doubt and questioning, with the questions "Have I recently developed a propensity to push people away? Am I okay with that?" bringing out a sense of vulnerability and struggle to connect with others.

As the song progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is wrestling with conflicted feelings about a romantic relationship. The lines "So you'll hate me, make love, lately I've spent my days in daydreams waking you, me, saving every heartbeat, word, line that you ever gave to me" suggest a sense of longing and regret, as the singer reflects on a relationship that has not turned out the way they had hoped. The repeated refrain "If you're cold, go inside, if you're tired, go to sleep, if you're weak, come to me and find shameful company" echoes the idea that we all struggle and feel vulnerable at times, and that sharing those struggles with others can bring a sense of comfort and connection.

Overall, Rainbow Kitten Surprise's "Shameful Company" is a powerful and emotionally resonant song that speaks to the universal human experience of loneliness, self-doubt, and the struggle to connect with others.

If you're sad and drunk there is no competition in what you should be listening to besides this band.

@bloodyhelice4284

Old cossack folk music such as lyubo bratsy lyubo or when we were at war, sadistik, and brown bird's music (rip) all compete evenly with this. Just my opinion. This band kicks ass while drinking but i found them during a psybocilin trip when my girlfriend showed me a song, been in love since.

@stubz3208

@@bloodyhelice4284 I imagine it's probably epic while on a trip

@bloodyhelice4284

@@stubz3208 well man i haven't personally listened to any interpretations of the song by other people but I'll tell you, "devil in me" was the first song i heard at the peak of my trip. My interpretation is the devil lending you his body and demanding you leave it ready for him once you begin to relate. Hence the blur of lines "whiskey on the bed" and "whiskey on the ledge", trying to see what you prefer and depending on which just use your own body. Practically mocking people for singing along mindlessly. I also felt cocaine jesus was a direct reference as we all want to be him (the devil). As in that song he keeps reminding you he "has all that you left me". Or from the devil in me "shake me all out when you're done". To top it off the line in "alls well that ends well" saying "clocks made god from the monsters in my head" show that the devil, Jesus, or who you look up to all fear what they cannot control (or what is considered the most subjective thing to interpret), time. Time is often a bargaining factor in these songs, thus i like to relate them.

@bloodyhelice4284

@@stubz3208 I'll also add i believe the lyrics are written by a truthfully empathic person who doesn't particularly write a song from one point of view, but its up to you to decide who's speaking through the singing. Perhaps that trip left me crazy, but god damn these guys are something else.

@bloodyhelice4284

Well since you mention drinking(7th beer after a damn long shift). My thoughts on this song are much more personal and I'm only really now breaking it down. But in the first 6 lines i could only answer the one of pushing people away with "yes". After that it turns into trying to love the opposite.

Which im just thinking is a great way to mislead us who were raised good but still struggle with understanding other people. If you keep answering "no" than is this song about you? I really don't know but it keeps the mind jogging.
