In its earlier days, the band had duel vocals performed by De Marrais and Fischer; later, De Marrais would become the lead vocalist in the majority of their songs. The band's many tours and intimate live shows at venues such as Brooklyn's Northsix (now Music Hall of Williamsburg), Washington, D.C.'s The Black Cat, Bowery Ballroom in NYC, and Chapel Hill's Cat's Cradle helped to grow its fan base and fuel album sales.
On November 6, 2006, the band announced, through Pitchfork Media, that the December 16th show at New York City's Bowery Ballroom would be their last. They played one more show on December 17th at Northsix, which De Marrais referred to as "home" because it also served as the band's rehearsal space.
The band reformed in 2014 with a reunion show at Bowery Ballroom on December 31. Additional shows were added for February 14 and April 18, 2015 at Lincoln Hall in Chicago and Union Transfer in Philadelphia, respectively.
In 2017 the band released S/T, their first album in 11 years.
9. I'll Make You Mine
Rainer Maria Lyrics

Can you make all the tones in my head?
what you couldn't find in books
And you've broken every spine
Said I'll make
I'll make you mine
Because I love you so tonight
I promise that I will send my fears away
I can tame all the tigers in your blood stream
Can you lay all my ghosts in their place
what you couldn't find in books
And you've broken every spine
I'll make
I'll make you mine
I'll make
I'll make you mine
I'll make you mine
Cause I love you so tonight
I'll promise that I will, send my fears away
I'll make you mi-mi-mine
I'll make you mi-mi-mine and
I'll send my fears away
I your know sad and I think its my fault
I know your sad and I think its my fault
But your mother said don't call unless you can be there, be there
I'll make you mine
Cause I love you so tonight
And I promise that I will send my fears away
I'll make you mi-mi-mine
I'll make you mi-mi-mine and
I'll send my fears away
The first stanza in the song suggests that the singer is attempting to test their partner's knowledge of them, both physically and mentally; they want them to know them completely, inside and out. The following line, "what you couldn't find in books, and you've broken every spine," reveals a bit about the singer's character. Perhaps they have tried to find solutions to personal issues in self-help books and are still struggling despite their efforts. The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "I'll make you mine," indicating that the singer is determined to have this person as their own, regardless of any obstacles or flaws. The singer promises to "send my fears away" in an effort to show their commitment to their partner.
The second stanza features a similar idea; the singer is suggesting that they can "tame all the tigers in your bloodstream," or essentially fix whatever is wrong with their partner. However, they also admit that they have "ghosts" that need to be laid to rest, which suggests a vulnerability on their part. The repetition of "I'll make you mine" further emphasizes their desire for this person. The final stanza introduces the idea that there is some kind of distance between the two individuals, possibly due to the singer's actions. The line "your mother said don't call unless you can be there" suggests that there is some kind of emotional unavailability on the singer's part that has caused the disconnect. However, the chorus once again reinforces the singer's vow to make their partner theirs, promising to "send my fears away."
