Make You Mine
Rainer Maria Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can you name all the bones in my body?
Can you make all the tones in my head?
What you couldn't find in books--
and you've broken every spine--
is that I'll make,
I'll make you mine.

I'll make you mine,
'cause I love you SO, tonight.
And I promise that I will send my fears away.

I could tame all the tigers in your bloodstream.
Can you lay all my ghosts in their graves?
But what you couldn't find in books
(and you've broken every spine)
is that I'll make,
I'll make you mine.
Yeah, I'll make,
I'll make you mine.

I'll make you mine,
'cause I love you so, tonight.
And I promise that I will send my fears away.
I'm make you mine, mine, mine,
mine, mine, mine.
And I'll send my fears away.

I know you're sad
and I think it's my fault.
I know you're sad
and I think it's my fault.
But your mother said
don't call unless you can be there,
yeah, be there.

I'll make you mine,
'cause I love you SO, tonight.
And I promise that I will send my fears away.
I'll make you mine, mine, mine,

mine, mine, mine.
I'll send my fears away.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Rainer Maria's song Make You Mine are about two lovers who promise to be there for each other despite the emotional baggage they carry. The song is rich in metaphors, referencing bones, tones, tigers, and ghosts, to convey the idea that the singers know each other inside out, flaws and all. The opening lines, "Can you name all the bones in my body?/ Can you make all the tones in my head?" are a clever way of asking if the other person knows everything there is to know about them. The line "I could tame all the tigers in your bloodstream" suggests the idea of a wild, untamed spirit that needs to be understood and accepted.

Throughout the song, there is a sense of urgency, as if the singers need to reassure each other that they won't abandon the relationship. The repetition of the line "I'll make you mine" reflects this desire to hold onto each other tightly. The lines "I know you're sad/ and I think it's my fault" suggest that the singers have had some problems in the past, but are willing to work through them. The final lines, "But your mother said/ don't call unless you can be there," suggest that the singers need to be present for each other, no matter what challenges they may face.

Overall, Make You Mine is a heartfelt love song about two people who see each other's flaws but choose to love each other deeply anyway. It's a song about taking risks, being vulnerable, and promising to be there for each other always.

If you want to hear a similar style instrumental check out "Millhouse Live Instrumental 1", it's got a guy with a blue shirt jumping in the air (that's me 17yrs ago and about 30lbs lighter). I would record our practices and we did this song before I left the band and never got to play it live but it turned out pretty good for a home recording on a mini boom box. We were a pop punk band from the mid 90's

as a 44 yr old man I now understand what a 12 yr old girl feels for the latest boy band crush, in that any gal that could sing me this could rip out my heart an do what ever the fk they want with it.....
P.S that sounded way more creeepy than intended
