Weather
Ralph Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So you're finally over it now.
You thought you wouldn't make it,
But I knew you would somehow.
I guess I knew you could make it in the end
And it's good to have you round again old friend.

You weather the storm,
You weather the storm.
You weather the storm,
And you come up smiling in the end.

So, you're over all the disappointments now.
You thought you wouldn't make it,
But I knew you would somehow.
Maybe it still hurts to think of bad times that you spent,
But it's over, and you're back again old friend.

Chorus

Into every life, a little rain must fall,
And for sure it poured down on you.
An umbrella's no good in a hurricane,
But just like the sun in the end you come shining through.

Chorus

So, you see, it's getting better now,
You look a little battered,
But we all do anyhow.
When the break is mended it can be stronger than before.
Don't go round butting doors or punching walls.

Repeat chorus twice.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ralph McTell's song Weather the Storm are about a friend who has overcome a difficult period in their life. The first verse acknowledges that the friend had doubts about making it through, but the singer always had hope that they could overcome their struggles. The chorus emphasizes the friend's resilience and ability to weather the storm, ultimately coming out stronger and happier in the end. The second verse affirms that although bad times may still be painful to remember, the friend has moved past them and is once again a welcome part of the singer's life.

The final verse encourages the friend to continue moving forward and not let their struggles define them. The line "when the break is mended it can be stronger than before" suggests that overcoming challenges can lead to personal growth and strength. The song is ultimately a message of hope and encouragement to those going through hard times.

Summer nights, they happen so fast
Both want some action
But we don't wanna get attached
Drunk on the heat, and it tastes so sweet
Never meant, never meant for this thing to last

[Pre-Chorus]
Every time I stumble home with you beside me
Feel like there's a fever running through my body
Sneak into the pool, we need to cool down, down, down

[Chorus]
Is it love, or is it the weather?
When the leaves fall, will we stay together?
June, July, August, September
When the fun ends, will we still be together?

[Verse 2]
We stay up late talking till we're sober
You know my secrets
Will you keep them when it's over?
Hey, what's your sign?
Does it match with mine?
Who knows, who knows what happens come October

[Pre-Chorus]
Every time I stumble home with you beside me
Feel like there's a fever running through my body
Sneak into the pool, we need to cool down, down, down

[Chorus]
Is it love, or is it the weather?
When the leaves fall, will we stay together?
June, July, August, September
When the fun ends, will we still be together?

[Post-Chorus]
Will we be, will we be, will we be together?
Will we be, will we be together?
Will we be, will we be, will we be together?
Will we be, will we be together?

[Bridge]
Spend all this time getting close to you
But when the tans fade, will the feelings fade, too?
Didn't think that I wanted more from you
But this cold front's got me so, so confused

[Chorus]
Is it love, or is it the weather?
When the leaves fall, will we stay together?
June, July, August, September
When the fun ends, will we still be together?

[Outro]
Will we be, will we be, will we be together?
Will we be, will we still be together?
Will we be, will we be, will we be together?
Will we be, will we be together?
Will we still be together? Mm

Another gem from the great Ralph . Every song is like discovering another treasure . Feels like taking a trip back to the 80s . Another song for my iTunes playlist .

Radio Creme Brulee

It is not just the synthy production style of the 80s that she has down to a science. Ralph also seems to have a great grasp of melody - something that is sorely missing from most of the musical mainstream. Earlier this year, she performed a song called "Bedroom eyes" at an intimate gig in New York. This song is going to be real banger on her debut album (which releases at the end of next month).

I always have a heart attack when you release music. My absolute queen!!

Fredrik Hansson

The Refined Budget

I’m obsessed with this song! Love the 80s vibe
