I Should Care
Ralph Flanagan And His Orchestra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I should care, I should go around weeping
I should care, I should go without sleeping
Strangely enough, I sleep well
Except for a dream or two
But then I count my sheep well
Funny how sheep can lull you to sleep

So I should care, I should let it upset me
I should care but it just doesn't get me
Maybe I won't find someone as lovely as you
But I should care and I do

I should care but it just doesn't get me
Maybe I won't find someone as lovely as you
But I should care and I do

And I do

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ralph Flanagan And His Orchestra's song "I Should Care" express a sense of resignation and acceptance after the end of a romantic relationship. The singer acknowledges that they "should care" and be upset about the breakup, but they don't feel the level of emotion they think they're supposed to. Despite sleeping well and counting sheep, the singer ultimately admits that they do care about the lost relationship, even if it doesn't stir up the expected feelings. The use of the word "should" throughout the lyrics highlights the singer's internal struggle to reconcile their true feelings with societal expectations of how they should feel after a breakup.

@Swingman 56 Sure, I believe you got it, its a celesta. But I used to think that it could of been one of those drum set chimes.
