Tresvant sang lead on many of the New Edition lead singles including "Candy Girl", "Cool It Now" and "If It Isn't Love". Tresvant led the group from 1983 to 1989.
Despite the success of groupmates Bobby Brown, Bell Biv DeVoe, and Johnny Gill, Tresvant was cautious about his own solo career. Signing to MCA Records, Tresvant let his apprehension be known in several interviews.
Nevertheless, well-known producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were confident in his abilities after having worked with him on the album Heart Break. They wrote the song "Sensitivity" for him which hit #1 on the R&B charts, #4 on the Hot 100 and it went gold. His self-titled album released shortly after in 1990 and went platinum as well, topping the R&B charts. The album scored two more hits with "Stone Cold Gentleman" reaching #3 on the R&B charts and "Do What I Gotta Do" which reached #2.
Tresvant appeared in the movie House Party 2 in 1991 and the play, "The Man Of Her Dreams" in 2002. In 1993, he released his second album, It's Goin' Down. The album gave Tresvant greater involvement as he produced many of the tracks himself. However, perhaps due to limited promotion, the album failed to perform commercially as well as the debut.
On September 18, 2004, he married Amber Serrano.
Ralph's third solo album, Rizz Wa Faire, was released March 7, 2006. The first single from the album was "My Homegirl".

All perfect in their own way, little girl
I've had my chance to have lovers
But I passed them right by girl, day after day
There's only you on my mind, girl
What can I do to make you see
I'm so sincerely in our world
I love you just for you
Girl, I'll say it again and again, little girl
I never wanna let you go
Anyone in love would know
Ain't no changin' this commitment
I'm with you till the end
So many things we're unsure of
As time rushes past our eyes, little girl
There's so much confusion around us
We really gotta hold on to what's real in our lives
I love you just for you
Girl, I'll say it again and again, little girl
I never wanna let you go
Anyone in love would know
Ain't no changin' this commitment
I'm with you till the end
I love you just for you
Girl, I'll say it again and again, little girl
I never wanna let you go
Anyone in love would know
Ain't no changin' this commitment
I'm with you till the end
I love you just for you
Girl, I'll say it again and again, little girl
I never wanna let you go
Anyone in love would know
Ain't no changin' this commitment
I'm with you till the end
I love you just for you
Girl, I'll say it again and again, little girl
I never wanna let you go
Anyone in love would know
Ain't no changin' this commitment
I'm with you till the end
I love you just for you
Girl, I'll say it again and again (say it again)
I never wanna let you go, baby
Anyone in love would know, baby
Ain't no changin' this commitment
I'm with you till the end
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah
Girl, I'll say it again and again, little girl
I never wanna let you go
Anyone in love would know
Ain't no changin' this commitment
I'm with you till the end
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah
You don't need to change
And I don't need to change a thing about you
I never wanna let you go (I love you girl)
Anyone in love would know (it's all about us)
Ain't no changin' this commitment
I'm with you till the end
The song "I Love You" by Ralph Tresvant is a declaration of love and commitment to a woman who is the only one on his mind. He has had opportunities to be with other women, but none compare to her. He reinforces that he loves her just the way she is and that he will remain loyal to her until the end. The lyrics also acknowledge how confusing and uncertain life can be, but he wants to hold onto what's real, which is their love for each other.
The first verse speaks about how there may be other women in the world, but the singer only has eyes for the special person he's speaking to. He has passed on other lovers because none of them compare to her. He is sincere in his love for her and wants her to know that she is all he needs. The chorus repeats the phrase "I love you just for you" and emphasizes that he never wants to let her go, which anyone in love would understand. The commitment he makes to her is unwavering, and he will be with her through thick and thin.
In the second verse, the singer acknowledges the confusion and uncertainty that life can bring. Time passes quickly, and it's important to focus on what's real and grounded. He reinforces his love for her and how it's just for her, not for anyone else. The chorus repeats, reinforcing his commitment to her and the fact that he will remain with her till the end, regardless of any changes or obstacles that come their way.
Overall, the song is a classic declaration of love and commitment. It's a sweet melody that covers the theme of love perfectly. The song is a reminder that no matter how complicated and chaotic life may become, it's important to hold on to what's real and that love is indeed the most authentic and perfect thing one can have in their lives.

Totally agree. One of the R&B albums of the early 90's, and that's saying something given that was a true golden age of R&B.
