Pet Semetary
Ramones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Under the arc of a weather stain boards
Ancient goblins, and warlords,
Come out the ground, not making a sound,
The smell of death is all around,
And the night when the cold wind blows
No one cares, nobody knows.

I don't want to be buried in a Pet Sematary
I don't want to live my life again,
I don't want to be buried in a Pet Sematary
I don't want to live my life again.

Follow victor to the sacred place
This aint a dream, I can't escape
Molars and fangs, the clicking of bones,
Spirits moaning among the tombstones,
And the night, when the moon is bright,
Someone cries, something aint right.

I don't want to be buried in a Pet Sematary
I don't want to live my life again,
I don't want to be buried in a Pet Sematary
I don't want to live my life again.

The moon is full, the air is still,
All of the sudden I feel a chain,
Victor is grinning, flesh rotting away,
Skeletons dance, I curse this day,
And the night when the wolves cry out,
Listen close and you can hear me shout

I don't want to be buried in a Pet Sematary
I don't want to live my life again,

I don't want to be buried in a Pet Sematary
I don't want to live my life again.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Ramones' song "Pet Sematary" are dark and ominous, creating an eerie and unsettling atmosphere. The song depicts a burial ground where ancient goblins and warlords rise from the ground silently, surrounded by the smell of death. The singer is adamant about not wanting to be buried in this pet sematary, as he does not want to live his life again. The lyrics also mention following a character named Victor to a sacred place, where molars and fangs click and spirits moan among the tombstones. The moon is full, and the air is still as the singer feels a sudden chain and sees Victor grinning with flesh rotting away. The scene is described as if skeletons are dancing, and the singer curses the day, shouting how he never wants to be buried in a pet sematary.

The lyrics of the song are a reflection of the novel 'Pet Sematary' by Stephen King, written in 1983. The novel is a horror story about a burial ground where the dead could be resurrected. The ground was considered sacred by the Micmac Native American tribe, and pets or people buried there would come back to life. The resurrected would not be the same, and they would be angry and violent, turning against their loved ones. The novel follows a character named Louis Creed, who moves his family to a new town and discovers the burial ground. He slowly becomes obsessed with it, leading to catastrophic consequences.

@Love-qb8yk

The Ramones are now at the Pet Sematary

@SpongeBobbin34

Love but they don’t want to live their lives again

@larsivar8772

Tommy Ramone wasn't in the band when this song was made. The drummer was Marky Ramone.

@majidie5301

are those all original members?

@daniels5930

@@majidie5301 Yeah, those 4 are the original line up. Tommy left the band in '78 to work on studio projects and Marky took his place before being fired and re-hired later on.
