Rancid has had two lineup changes since its inception, with Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman being continuous members. Their current lineup consists of Armstrong on guitar and vocals, Freeman on bass and vocals, Lars Frederiksen on guitar and vocals, and Branden Steineckert on drums. The band was formed by Armstrong, Freeman, and former drummer Brett Reed, who left the band in 2006 and was replaced by Steineckert. This lineup recorded their first album, with Frederiksen joining the band on their subsequent tour.
To date, Rancid has released ten studio albums, one split album, one compilation, two extended plays, and a series of live online-only albums, and has been featured on a number of compilation albums. The band has sold over four million records worldwide, making it one of the most successful punk rock groups of all time. The band rose to fame in 1994 with its second studio album, Let's Go, featuring the single "Salvation". In the following year, Rancid released its highly successful album ...And Out Come the Wolves, which produced its best-known songs "Roots Radicals", "Ruby Soho", and "Time Bomb", and was certified gold and platinum by the RIAA, selling over one million copies in the United States alone. Its next six albums – Life Won't Wait (1998), Rancid (2000), Indestructible (2003), Let the Dominoes Fall (2009), ...Honor Is All We Know (2014) and Trouble Maker (2017) – were also critically acclaimed, though not as commercially successful as ...And Out Come the Wolves. The band released their tenth album, Tomorrow Never Comes, in June 2023.

Réconciliation
Rancid Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Protagonists and infidels gonna speak out on the run
Deep rooted back and fourth
Failed from both sides
Triggered a sudden Excitement into the battle night
Reconciliation in what they already knew
Humanities lost when the power's vested in a few
Nelson spent 19 years on robin island estranged
I hear a voice in Cape Town, on Bohemian long St.
Listen closely, yeah listen closely
Reconciliation in what they already knew
Humanities lost when the power's vested in a few
The lyrics to Rancid's song "Reconciliation" touch on themes of conflict, division, and the struggle for power. The opening lines describe a swarm of locusts covering the sun, which can be interpreted as a metaphor for the overwhelming force of opposing groups coming together in battle. The following lines speak of protagonists and infidels speaking out on the run, indicating that both sides are willing to fight for their beliefs. The lyric "Failed from both sides" suggests that despite their efforts, neither side has succeeded in achieving their goals.
The chorus of the song brings the idea of reconciliation to the forefront. The lyrics state that it is something that has already been known, suggesting that it is not a new or novel concept. However, it is something that humanity has lost sight of due to the power being concentrated in the hands of a few individuals. The image of a shadow of an island clouding the symbol of change sends the message that the struggle for reconciliation is being obscured by larger forces.
The second verse introduces the real-life example of Nelson Mandela, who spent 19 years on Robin Island estranged from society. The song moves to Cape Town, where lyrics encourage listeners to "listen closely" to the voice on Bohemian long St. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the importance of reconciliation in the face of ongoing struggle and division.
