Rancid has had two lineup changes since its inception, with Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman being continuous members. Their current lineup consists of Armstrong on guitar and vocals, Freeman on bass and vocals, Lars Frederiksen on guitar and vocals, and Branden Steineckert on drums. The band was formed by Armstrong, Freeman, and former drummer Brett Reed, who left the band in 2006 and was replaced by Steineckert. This lineup recorded their first album, with Frederiksen joining the band on their subsequent tour.
To date, Rancid has released ten studio albums, one split album, one compilation, two extended plays, and a series of live online-only albums, and has been featured on a number of compilation albums. The band has sold over four million records worldwide, making it one of the most successful punk rock groups of all time. The band rose to fame in 1994 with its second studio album, Let's Go, featuring the single "Salvation". In the following year, Rancid released its highly successful album ...And Out Come the Wolves, which produced its best-known songs "Roots Radicals", "Ruby Soho", and "Time Bomb", and was certified gold and platinum by the RIAA, selling over one million copies in the United States alone. Its next six albums – Life Won't Wait (1998), Rancid (2000), Indestructible (2003), Let the Dominoes Fall (2009), ...Honor Is All We Know (2014) and Trouble Maker (2017) – were also critically acclaimed, though not as commercially successful as ...And Out Come the Wolves. The band released their tenth album, Tomorrow Never Comes, in June 2023.

Sick Sick World
Rancid Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To form a wasteland
Atomic blow
A total nothing
Totaled completely
You filth's are discovered but you eyes are boiling
It's a sick sick world so what do you do kid?
Come on down, it's your turn, yeah it's your turn!
A total giant glass ought to make the plan
This song's about when you go back-to-back
When you let out the dogs and your
Mind is a stag
It's a sick sick world so what do you do kid?
Come on down, it's your turn, yeah it's your turn!
It's a sick sick world so what do you do kid?
Come on down, it's your turn, yeah it's your turn!
The lyrics to Rancid's song Sick Sick World paint a dystopian picture of a world that has been ravaged by atomic destruction. The opening line refers to those who survived the blast as creeps, living life in a calm and windy wasteland. The next few lines describe the devastation wrought by the atomic explosion, leaving the world as a total nothing. The singer then turns to address those who survived, calling them filth and telling them that they have been discovered, yet their eyes are boiling with rage. This sets the stage for the chorus, where the singer asks the listener, "It's a sick sick world so what do you do kid? Come on down, it's your turn, yeah it's your turn!" The second verse introduces a band called A Night at the Goat and describes a situation where the listener must let out the dogs and their mind becomes a stag. The song ends by repeating the chorus, driving home the message that in this sick sick world, it's up to the listener to decide what to do next.
Overall, the lyrics to Sick Sick World are a commentary on the state of the world, both during the time this song was written (late 1990s) and potentially any time in the future. The use of atomic destruction as a framing device for the song's message is a common theme in punk rock music, with bands like Rancid often addressing societal and political issues through metaphorical language.
