Rancid has had two lineup changes since its inception, with Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman being continuous members. Their current lineup consists of Armstrong on guitar and vocals, Freeman on bass and vocals, Lars Frederiksen on guitar and vocals, and Branden Steineckert on drums. The band was formed by Armstrong, Freeman, and former drummer Brett Reed, who left the band in 2006 and was replaced by Steineckert. This lineup recorded their first album, with Frederiksen joining the band on their subsequent tour.
To date, Rancid has released ten studio albums, one split album, one compilation, two extended plays, and a series of live online-only albums, and has been featured on a number of compilation albums. The band has sold over four million records worldwide, making it one of the most successful punk rock groups of all time. The band rose to fame in 1994 with its second studio album, Let's Go, featuring the single "Salvation". In the following year, Rancid released its highly successful album ...And Out Come the Wolves, which produced its best-known songs "Roots Radicals", "Ruby Soho", and "Time Bomb", and was certified gold and platinum by the RIAA, selling over one million copies in the United States alone. Its next six albums – Life Won't Wait (1998), Rancid (2000), Indestructible (2003), Let the Dominoes Fall (2009), ...Honor Is All We Know (2014) and Trouble Maker (2017) – were also critically acclaimed, though not as commercially successful as ...And Out Come the Wolves. The band released their tenth album, Tomorrow Never Comes, in June 2023.

You Want It You Got It
Rancid Lyrics

This is the place
Where everyone can belong
You want it, we got it
Kicking up a riot
Won't you all sing along
Can't tell you
It was showing
Like the wind I'm blowing
Every town man I'm know in
You want it, we got it
This is the place
Where everyone can belong
You want it, we got it
Kicking up a riot
Won't you all sing along
Some live a life
Of indecision
Strung out in the
Petty schisms
I heard GBH
I made a decision
Punk Rock is my religion
You want it, we got it
This is the place
Where everyone can belong
You want it, we got it
Kicking up a riot
Won't you all sing along
I sit back
And I think its funny
You we're so worried
About the money
Cloudy days are looking sunny
So why don't you come
And stick with me honey
You want it, we got it
This is the place
Where everyone can belong
You want it, we got it
Kicking up a riot
Won't you all sing along
To all our friends
By this I swear
You want it, we got it
This is the place
Where everyone can belong
You want it, we got it
Kicking up a riot
Won't you all sing along
You want it, we got it
You want it, we got it
The lyrics to Rancid's song "You Want It You Got It" express a message of inclusivity and acceptance. The chorus, with its repetition of "You want it, we got it," creates a sense of belonging and invitation to anyone who wants to be a part of the punk rock community. The line "This is the place where everyone can belong" reinforces this idea, establishing that punk rock is a place where anyone can fit in and feel accepted.
In the first verse, the lyrics describe the weariness of traveling from town to town, but the singer finds solace in the fact that they are known throughout each place they go. This speaks to the sense of community that can be found within punk rock, where people share similar values and can find a sense of home wherever they go.
The second verse references a life of indecision and being "strung out in the petty schisms," but the singer declares that they have found their place within punk rock. They even declare that "punk rock is my religion," emphasizing the importance of the punk rock community in their life.
The final verse speaks to the freedom and joy that can be found in punk rock. The reference to "cloudy days" becoming sunny suggests that even during difficult times, being a part of the punk rock community can provide a sense of hope and optimism. The final lines, "To all our friends by this I swear," further reinforce the sense of community and loyalty within the punk rock community.
