Crawford first polished her craft at club gigs from Cincinnati to St. Tropez, but made her name in mid 1970s in New York, where she sang with jazzmen George Benson on his album "Big Man" 1975) and Cannonball Adderley.
She then led Jazz veterans The Crusaders on the transatlantic big hit "Street Life" (1979). Her follow up solo efforts included "'One Day I'll Fly Away" (1980, Grand Prize for Tokyo International Music Festival); "'You Might Need Somebody" (1981); and "'Rainy Night In Georgia" (1981); which all became soul standards. Secret Combination (1981) stayed on the Billboard album chart for 60 weeks, after which her profile dipped, despite a return to the Top 10 with "Almaz" in (1986).
Naked And True (1995) brought Crawford back to her roots: it included Benson's "Give Me The Night", and confirmed her soul heritage by featuring Funkadelicists Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell and The Fred Wesley Horns. But she enjoyed her highest profile of the decade when rising starlet Shola Ama had a worldwide hit with a cover of " You Might Need Somebody" in 1997.
She still continues to make great R&B hits and performs on various Jazz Festivals around the world.
You Bring The Sun Out

You bring the sun out
To warm my life up
To make my love grow everyday
You bring the stars out
To light the night up
To make the darkness go away
You bring the sun out
To warm my life up
To make my love grow everyday
You bring the stars out
To light the night up
To make the darkness go away
I reach to you
You reach to me
Not matter where I go I know you'll always be
Never to far
Far from my heart
I'll always have you here
I always know you're near
You bring the sun out
To warm my life up
To make my love grow everyday
You bring the stars out
To light the night up
To make the darkness go away
To make the darkness go away
Ooh...
The lyrics of "You Bring the Sun Out" by Randy Crawford speak of finding warmth and love in a significant other. The song emphasizes how the presence of this person lights up and brightens the singer's life. The idea of the sun bringing warmth and the stars bringing light is also used to convey how this special person makes the darkest moments disappear. The repetition of the verses, choruses, and the line "To make my love grow everyday" emphasizes the strength of the love between the singer and the person being sung about.
The lyrics also show the depth of the relationship between the singer and the other person. The lines "I reach to you, you reach to me, no matter where I go" and "never too far, far from my heart" display a sense of trust and commitment. It's almost as if they are never really apart, even when physically separated. The song's message is all about appreciation, recognition, and gratitude for the love of that special person who warms our life and lights our way.
