Ain't That a Shame
Randy Jackson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Though folks with good intentions
Tell me to save my tears
Well I'm so mad about him
I can't live without him

Never treats me sweet and gentle
The way he should
I've got it bad
And that ain't good

My poor heart is so sentimental
Not made of wood
I've got it so bad
And that ain't good

But when the fish are jumpin'
And Friday rolls around
My man an' I, we gin some
We pray some, and sin some

He don't love me like I love him
The way he should
I've got it bad
And that ain't good

Yes I've got it bad
And that ain't good

Overall Meaning

Randy Jackson's song "Ain't That a Shame" is a classic tale of a woman deeply in love with a man who doesn't love her back the same way. She is being advised by her friends to move on and stop crying over him, but her heart is too deeply invested. She admits that her man doesn't treat her sweetly and gently, but she can't live without him. Her heart is too sentimental, and she's unable to shake off her feelings for him. Even when they get into trouble and have to pray for forgiveness, her love for him remains unwavering.

The lyrics convey the message of unrequited love that is both relatable and heartbreaking. The woman is aware of her man's flaws, but she's still drawn to him. She's willing to overlook his shortcomings and continue loving him, even though there's no guarantee he feels the same way. She's caught in a cycle of despair and heartbreak, unable to move on from the man who doesn't reciprocate her love.

Overall, "Ain't That a Shame" is a beautiful composition that speaks to the complexities of love and relationships. It's a poignant reminder that sometimes, loving someone can hurt in ways that we never imagined.

This was a wonderful night of music 5 years ago (approximately).  Randy Jackson played for over 3 hours and would have played even longer, but we literally hit "bar time" (2am)!  Class act and an amazing performer!!  Excited to see Randy Jackson perform for the 5th consecutive year at Papa's Social Club, Milwaukee, on Saturday, March 7 2015!
