Life and career
As a teenager in 1970, Bitton moved to San Francisco, where she began to work on the songs from the French Age d’Or ('Golden Age'). Her passion for music and song led her to the Edith Piaf songbook. Bitton became a renowned interpreter of Edith Piaf's music.
Bitton's hit show, “Raquel Bitton sings Piaf - her story, her songs” has been performed across North America including selling out Carnegie Hall. Critic Ann Powers, writing in the New York Times, liked Bitton's low-key treatment as she "served her subject by de-emphasizing the pathos in favour of the craft", using "calm narration". Bitton "did well to concentrate on the great singer as a virtuoso rather than a heroine" as the legend was impossible to live up to, but "a bright interpreter like Ms. Bitton certainly can illuminate it", wrote Powers.
The show “PIAF- her story, her songs” was made into a film which won first place at the 25th Classic Telly awards, and received the Special Jury Award for most moving film experience at The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival. It was released on DVD by Lionsgate Films

Raquel Bitton Lyrics

Clouds are feathers from a lady's fan
Do you remember how we watched them drifting by
Long ago when love began
Clouds floating thru the night
While the silver stars above
Lend their tender light
While I wonder why my love ever said goodbye
The night was young
The breeze was warm and tender
A fool was I but how was I to know
I gladly gave my heart in sweet surrender
To learn that love was meant to come and go
Like snowhite clouds floating through the night
Speaking of a love that was heavenly
A love that could never be mine
Once we were together and now we're apart
Did you find it easy to forget?
I keep on dreaming while the years go drifting by
Calling you my "Sweet Regret"
Clouds floating thru the night
While the silver stars above
Lend their tender light
Clouds drifting thru the sky
While I wonder why my love ever said goodbye
The night was young
The breeze was warm and tender
A fool was I but how was I to know
I gladly gave my heart in sweet surrender
To learn that love was meant to come and go
Like snowhite Clouds Floating thru the night
Speaking of a love that was heavenly
A love that could never be mine
In this romantic song, Raquel Bitton portrays clouds in a poetic way, relaying her feelings of love, heartbreak, and nostalgia. She describes clouds as dewdrops that once kissed a rose and feathers from a lady's fan, romantic and delicate. The lyrics reminisce on a past love where the singer and her partner would watch clouds drift by, while the stars in the sky offered a tender light. However, the relationship ended, and the singer is left with only memories and dreams of her “sweet regret”. She wonders why her love ever said goodbye and laments how love is ephemeral, like white clouds that float through the night, talking about a heavenly love that could never be hers.
Overall, the song carries a sense of longing for a love that once was and a regret for the love that could have been. The clouds here are symbolic of the fleeting moments of happiness that are now gone, leaving a mark of bittersweet memories behind.
