The band's initial line up was as below, although there would be line up changes for the band by the time they came to work on their 3rd album, the first two members listed were a constant throughout the life time of the band.

I also played K-SHE all night in my small apartment in Normandy. Radios did not have "sleep" settings then. This was one of my favorites in the early 70's, and I still watch them on YouTube nightly before going to bed. Other classic rock station in St. Louis at the time was KADI. I liked them since they played a clip of Eric Clapton's (instrumental) Layla before each hourly news broadcast. Enjoyable times, and fun to re-live them!

Thank you so much for posting this song. It was always one of my favorite KSHE classics. Ha, I spent all my spare time in my room, listening to the radio with the lights off, full of teen angst. Rare Bird with just a few albums had a tremendous variety of music. From the almost symphony like Sympathy, to the ultra acid rock of As Your Mind Flies By, the incredible tight rock of Epic Forest, a ballad like Piece of Mind, to the almost jazzy Dollars; a vastly underappreciated group.

Re the St. Louis KSHE comments; yes it was one of the most progressive (and unpretentious) rock stations in the country in the 70s. The DJs consistently played rare gems on an hourly basis. You could literally walk into the station and chat with the DJs. Incredible

It's gone down hill, and yes, we are getting older. I lived in the STL area from the early 70s to the early 80s, and KSHE was a fantastic station. Upon visiting friends after leaving the area, I found KSHE had become more commercial, and played a much narrower set list of songs, often repeating the same song in 24 hours or less. It still played good music, but more more predictable, derivative, and formulaic.

This was my favorite song when I was in high school. Back when I had a poster of Desiderata on my wall. I used to play K-SHE all night, and this song was played by DJ Mark Close one morning as I was waking up. I finally found the album. I lent it to Billy Churchman RIP, and he didn't return it, but that was ok. He loved it too. I think of him every time I here this song, I miss you Billy.

Please listen to the live "Lonely Street" on YouTube from Rare Bird's Drury Street concert in 1975. It really rocks more than the album version. KSHE was an incredible rock radio station from the early 70s until probably 20 years ago when the commercialism monster conquered it, and the DJs played more and more a set list of songs. Back in the day, one didn't know what was coming next, and almost all of it was great. Obscure, esoteric, haunting, brilliant stuff. But not so much any longer.

Puzzled/amused by the St. Louis/KSHE connection here; I mean, is this the ONLY place this song received any airplay (though must admit that's where I first heard it, too)? Never has this nearly forgotten classic sounded better, perhaps because of all the nonsense (Slipknot---cough! cough!) that has come down the pike since. Utterly lacking in pretense, this track has a crystalline beauty to it, from its haunting organ/guitar riff to its pure, unadorned vocals. Thanks for posting this!

Mr Wones submitted a painting of mine and I won an art award for it. Did you like to eat Halls cough drops a lot? l.o.l. I lived on the North side of town in Walnut Park when i attended SouthWest High. I hung out with all the Long Hair Guys and Hippie chicks! Knowing Rare Bird was not at all rare if you were lucky enough to live in the right city. In St. Louis we had (and have) KSHE. For us, and I'm sure for folks in many other cities, Rare Bird was just another band our leading radio station played with reverence.

Good airplay - as good as it got in the US - for these guys, and this track, at WHCN , Hartford, CT, for a fair while in the late '60s and into the mid-'70s one of the country's best music radio stations (until the consultants came in and took over). Rare Bird, and many other significant artists including quite a few with sizable hits at the time, have been overlooked by the "selective memory" of "classik rawk" radio. I honestly know almost nothing about these guys except what I hear now and heard then, but my ears tell me this is at least as good or better than most of what was out there. (Quite frankly, a lot of classik rawk's "selective memory" involves who got good licensing deals rather than the best music, but that's a subject for another discussion.)

My mom worked next to the station in Crestwood at Ritepoint, they made ball point pens. She worked nights, sometimes I would go into work with her, then go over to the KSHE window to talk to the DJs. I was 12 and 13 years old, back in '67 & '68.

i think i might of been in that Art Class! The teacher had brown hair his name was Mr. Charles Wones! Right? Remember the White paste Jars with that funny smell! Some kids ate that shit! I was in a School Art Award contest for drawing a Hamburger! I placed 2nd. and got the Blue Ribbon and the Gold Key Award! I was the kid with the Long light brown hair! Really Long Hair!

KSHE played all the cool stuff back in the day. Now KSHE is terrible. Same corporate ordered songs over and over. And so many commercials. Three songs and ELEVEN commercials!!😡 I counted one day. I switched over to 93.1. They play some of the cool, old KSHE songs. Three songs, then 4 commercials. Not ideal, but tolerable. 97.5 out of Breese, IL is good also. I’ve heard some obscure songs I haven’t heard since Jr. High (I’m 62), but they like to play a lot of remakes that suck. I don’t want to hear anyone else singing Led Zeppelin songs!🤬
