Rare Bird Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's been a long cold lonely winter waiting for the sun.
Crops are dying, children crying alone.
But somebody is watching from afar, somebody knows what we're looking for

Overall Meaning

The opening line of the song "Somebody" by Rare Bird evokes an image of desperation and isolation. The singer talks about a long, cold winter, and how people are suffering due to the lack of sunlight. The next line conveys the message that everything around us is dying - the crops cannot thrive because of the harsh climate, and it's not just the earth, but also the children who are crying. However, despite all of this, there is hope. The singer states that someone is watching from afar and that somebody knows what people are looking for. This line signifies that even when things seem hopeless, there is always someone watching over us and that they have an understanding of our desires and needs.

The song "Somebody" is a call for hope and encouragement. It shows that even in the darkest of times, there's always hope that something good will come our way. The overall theme of the song is that no matter how bad things get, somebody is always watching over us, and there is always hope that someone will come to our rescue.

Steve Gould's vocals were always heartfelt. These guys could rock when they were in a jamming mood. Mike Rutherford of Genesis said seeing them live was the best! Brit pub-rock and beyond.

I have heard that Steve Gould was considered as a potential replacement when Peter Gabriel left Genesis...
