History: Rascal Flatts were founded near Columbus, Ohio. Gary LeVox and Jay DeMarcus were second cousins from a musical family. DeMarcus's brother-in-law, James Otto, is also a country music artist. DeMarcus moved to Nashville in 1992, earning his first record deal as part of a Christian group called East to West. In 1997, he finally convinced LeVox to leave behind his job with the Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and follow his musical dreams as well.
DeMarcus soon joined Chely Wright's band, and there he met Joe Don Rooney. DeMarcus and LeVox were working in a Printer's Alley nightclub, and when their part-time guitarist could not make it one night, DeMarcus invited Rooney to sit in. Eventually, they took the name Rascal Flatts and began performing together, getting signed to Lyric Street Records in late 1999.
The band was recently announced that they have celebrated 10 years of being one of the hottest country bands of the decade. On January 7, 2020, Rascal Flatts announced that they would be disbanding following a farewell tour after twenty years together. However, this farewell tour was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic; the group's disbandment was officially confirmed in October 2021.

Gravity holds it all in place and keeps it all from coming undone
That's the way, that's the way I feel about you
Think about how a baby cries to feel his mother's touch
And how he finally rest so peacefully when she finally picks him up
That's the way, that's the way I feel about you
Oh they say the sky the limit, but I say there is so much more
Because your love takes me higher than I've ever been before
I know why they shine the way the do
That's the way, that's the way I feel about you
Just like a solider fights for what he knows is right
He gladly gives his last breathe of freedom and he wouldn't even think twice
That's the way, that's the way I feel about you.
Oh they say the sky the limit, but I say there is so much more
Because your love takes me higher than I've ever been before
Where the heavens hold the stars that why they stay where they are
I know why they shine the way the do
That's the way, that's the way I feel about you
Oh I may not be a wise man but I know one things is true
That the reapers only reason is to find the ocean blue
That's the way, that's the way I feel about you
(That's the way I feel about you)
That's the way, that's the way I feel about you
The lyrics of Rascal Flatts' song "The Way" revolve around the theme of love and the intensity one feels towards their partner. The song starts with a description of how the earth's movements are held together by the force of gravity, just like how the singer's feelings for his partner are kept in place. The second verse talks about how a baby seeks its mother's touch, and how the singer feels a similar sense of peace when he is with his lover. The chorus highlights the intensity of the singer's love, and how it takes him to a new level beyond just the sky.
The third verse uses an analogy of soldiers fighting for what they believe in, and how they would give up their life for it. In the same manner, the singer feels that his love for his partner is just as strong, and he would go to great lengths to protect it. The final verse adds a touch of whimsy, where the singer talks about how he may not be a wise man but knows that the "reaper's" (or death's) only reason for existing is to find the ocean blue.
The song ultimately ends with the reaffirmation of the depth of the singer's feelings towards his beloved.
