Eee-O Eleven
Rat Pack Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One day I'll have me a
chauffeur... and a block long limousine
Eee-o-Eleven.
Eee-o-Eleven.

Someday I'll have me a penthouse.
Stacks and stacks of folding green.
Eee-o-Eleven.
Eee-o-Eleven.

It's all a state of mind.
Whether or not you'll fine.
That place down there or heaven.
In the meantime.
Eee-o Eee -o
Eee - o- Eleven.
Eee- o - Eleven.
Eee- o -Eleven.

Show me a man without a dream.
And I'll show you a man that's dead.
Real Dead.

Once I had me a dream.
But that dream got kicked in the head.
Dream dead.

I nearly had me that chauffeur
And that block long limousine.
Eee-o-Eleven
Eee-o-Eleven

I nearly had me that penthouse.
All them stacks of folding green.
Eee-o-Eleven
Eleven.

Some Judge is gonna say.
I'm putting you away.
For four score years add seven.
In the meantime.

Overall Meaning

In "Eee-O Eleven," the Rat Pack sings about their aspirations and dreams of wealth and success. The lyrics depict a longing for a luxurious lifestyle, symbolized by having a chauffeur and a block-long limousine, as well as a penthouse and stacks of money. The repetition of "Eee-o-Eleven" emphasizes their desire for this extravagant life.

The song also explores the idea that one's state of mind is crucial in achieving their dreams. It suggests that whether one finds their ideal place on Earth or in heaven, it is all dependent on their mindset. This can be interpreted as a reminder to stay positive and hopeful while working towards their goals.

The lyrics take a darker turn in the second verse when it mentions a man without a dream being physically dead. This implies that dreams provide a sense of purpose and vitality in life. The disappointment of having one's dream "kicked in the head" reflects the setbacks and challenges faced along the journey to success.

In the final lines, there is a mention of a possible prison sentence, suggesting that despite their dreams, the characters in the song may not achieve the life they desire. This serves as a reminder that dreams don't always come true and that one must be prepared for obstacles and potential disappointments along the way.

May The Rat Pack (Frank, Dean, Sammy, Peter, and Joey) rest in peace and entertainment. And, yes, the real founder of the group, Humphrey Bogart, is not forgotten by any means, either. Just love Sammy's rendition of Eee-O-Eleven, as it carries the movie's soundtrack, along with Dino's Ain't That a Kick in the Head. Ocean's 11 (original version) is one of those movies that one wants to watch over and over again. It never loses its touch.

He had the the midas touch. I'm a big Frank and Dean fan, but Sammy's talent was supernatural.
God bless you, I hope you know how much you were truly loved.

Sammy Davis Jr was the greatest singer/performer! That man could REALLY belt out a song, and with feeling and truth. Even though I am a lifelong fan and admirer of Frank Sinatra, he often ruined a performance by hamming it up or clowning around, but Sammy always gave 100% to each performance. God bless you Sammy - you were unique! 👏

That twist at the end was a real kick in the head! This ending is one of the coolest scenes in movie history. Now, the remake takes quite a different angle at the end, but the ending merge of Debussy's Claire de Lune while overlooking the Bellagio fountain is all-kinds-of-cool in its own right...but this scene right here? Gorgeous, brilliant, iconic cool.
