You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You
Rat Pack Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You're a nobody till somebody loves you
You're nobody till somebody cares
You may be king, you may possess the world and its gold
But gold won't bring you happiness when you're growin' old

The world still is the same, you'll never change it
As sure as the stars shine above
You're nobody till somebody loves you
Find yourself somebody to love

You're a nobody till somebody loves you
You're nobody till somebody cares
You may be a king, you may possess the whole world and its gold
But gold won't bring you happiness when you're gettin' old

The world still is the same, you'll never change it
As sure as the stars shine above
You're nobody, nobody till somebody loves you
So find yourself somebody

Gotta get yourself somebody

Because you're nobody till somebody loves you
You're nobody till somebody cares
You may a king, you might possess the big fat world and its gold
But gold won't bring you happiness when you're growin' old

The world, the whole world's the same, you'll never change it change it
As sure as the stars shine above

You're a nobody till somebody loves you
So find yourself somebody somebody to love

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the Rat Pack's song You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You are a reminder that no matter how successful or wealthy one may become, love and human connection are what truly bring happiness and fulfillment. The lines "You may be king, you may possess the world and its gold, but gold won't bring you happiness when you're growin' old" suggest that material possessions and power cannot replace the emotional value of love in one's life.

The repetition of the phrase "you're nobody till somebody loves you" reinforces the message throughout the song. This sentiment is especially poignant in the bridge of the song, where it is made clear that the world will not change for anyone and that love is the key to feeling valued and appreciated in life.

I hope music just hit a bump in the road, and will turn around and loop back to this kind of music. Music that people actualy put effort into!

Just great - I agree that there is good music today if you look for it - but generally speaking, in my opinion the great songwriters and artists came from the 20's to the 40's 50's and 60's - Sinatra was fashioned in the 40's and still agreat artist in the 60's.
