He sent "The Mixtape" to various record companies and in response Drew McConnell (bassist for Babyshambles) arranged for Rat Boy to have a meeting with him, Cardy was subsequently signed to Parlophone in early 2015. In addition to this "The Mixtape" was featured in NME Magazine and played by radio stations including BBC Radio 1, Radio X and BBC Radio 6.
Rat Boy was added to the BBC Sound Of 2016 Longlist, an annual poll in which over 100 Music Specialists select artists they believe will be successful within the next 12 months. In December 2015, MTV released its Brand New for 2016, an annually released article and webseries containing artists to watch out for during the upcoming year. Rat Boy was shortlisted along with 10 other artists including Bonkaz, Jack Garratt and Rationale. He was also nominated for the Best New Artist 2016 by NME magazine, which he subsequently won, along with performing his single "Move" at the awards ceremony.
In April 2017, Cardy's song "Knock Knock" was sampled on Kendrick Lamar's song "Lust", taken from his fourth studio album, Damn. When he found out about the sample, he tweeted his appreciation for it.
On 11 August 2017 Rat Boy released his long-awaited debut album Scum. The album was initially released with 13 tracks, however a deluxe 25-track version was also released. The deluxe version included more than 15 minutes of skits, samples and interludes, as well as an extra song "Sad Sad" featuring fellow indie musician Mallory Merk. The album reached 15 in the uk album chart.
In December 2017, Cardy supported Liam Gallagher on his UK solo tour.
On 25 January 2019 Rat Boy released the studio album Internationally Unknown which was recorded in 2018.
Rat Boy featured on McFly's 2020 album, "Young Dumb Thrills" under a song of the same name.

Till they took me off my medication
Started slagging off my generation
And I don't know why
Well, this is a story not long ago
When the world got divided by what we vote
We're not so far from World War 3
So fresh, the Prince of Polluted Air
Do you ever feel like your life just isn't fair?
Well, I am so poor, I can't even pay attention
From the bottom of my heart, can't get no redemption
Everyday
Standing in the rain with a blank expression
I guess this is a lesson in lessons, I see they're paying attention
Sixteen and you don't know what to be
Spend nights out on the street with friends and just get beat
Well, I guess the rest will be history
Old folks' votes don't cater for you and me
A friend in need is a friend indeed
But a friend selling Zs ain't clever
I was alright
Till they took me off my medication
Started slagging off my generation
And I don't know why
And now all night
Sitting talking 'bout a revolution
C-c-coughing up the p-pollution
And I can't breathe right
And I can't breathe right
Mind is spinning
My mind is spinning
Mind is spinning
M-m-my mind is spinning
I was alright
Till they took me off my medication
Started slagging off my generation
And I don't know why
And now all night
Sitting talking 'bout a revolution
C-c-coughing up the p-pollution
And I can't breathe right
I was alright
Till they took me off my medication
Started slagging off my generation
And I don't know why
And now all night
Sitting talking 'bout a revolution
C-c-coughing up the p-pollution
And I can't breathe right
And I can't breathe right
I can't breathe right
And I can't breathe right
I can't breathe right
And I don't know why
In RAT BOY's song "Revolution", the singer expresses his frustrations with the world he's living in. He feels like he was alright until he was taken off his medication, and he can't understand why people are slagging off his generation. The song tells the story of how the world is getting more and more divided, and it's just a matter of time before World War III breaks out. The singer thinks that a lot of people are crazy, and he feels like his life isn't fair.
The song seems to be a commentary on modern society and politics. It suggests that young people are often ignored by older generations who hold political power, and that lack of representation leads to feelings of disillusionment and anger. The singer is tired of being told what to do by people who don't understand his struggles, and he's ready for a revolution.
One interesting fact about this song is that RAT BOY, whose real name is Jordan Cardy, wrote it when he was only 17 years old. He tweeted that he wrote the song "in a detention center" and that it was "the moment I realized I wanted to start a band". Another interesting fact is that the song features a sample of the 1963 song "Da Doo Ron Ron" by The Crystals. The sample was used with the permission of the song's co-writer Jeff Barry.
