Diamonds
Ratatat Lyrics

We the cause of all the commotion
Your mouth running, but where is you going?
What is you smoking, man? That ain't potent
What is you talking, man? That ain't important
Illuminati, High society
We in this party and nobody invited me
We going crazy and I always use my best sense
But it don't matter cause I stay on my fresh prince
Maxin', relaxin, shootin' some pool and
Playing some b-ball outside of the school and
Girls with they top off outside of the pool and
Whips with the drop off outside of the Louvre
You just look stupid to be ignoring
The Delorean parked in front of Armani emporium
And parties at Richie is getting risky
Victoria's Secret show, they miss me
Voices in my head, I need choices in my bed
Ah, get out my fucking head
It's just me and my bad bitch
So you can say I'm on my Brad Pitt
Back to the la familia I'm aligned with
Before I betray them I slit my wrists
At the top is just us nigga
Cause I don't really trust niggas
And we made it through the hurricane
So celebrate and light the Mary Jane
We gon' make it, that's on everything
Truest girls get half naked, every spring
They saying, "Hey Kanye
We need you to go deeper than Tay Zonday,"
Cause my verses got pain, Chocolate Rain
So many lines, you photograph and it make arms break
On the radio, man I miss myself
I need to just step back and kiss myself
Baby, just step up and kiss the belt
A little lower.. that's what's up
Somebody pour her another cup
Is it too much to ask you keep your diamonds up?
I swear until my time is up
My style is sex in the shower, fresh as fuck

So shine bright tonight you and I
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Eye to eye so alive
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shining bright like a diamond
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shining bright like a diamond
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky

Palms rise to the universe
As we moonshine and molly
Feel the warmth we'll never die
We're like diamonds in the sky
You're a shooting star I see
A vision of ecstasy
When you hold me I'm alive
We're like diamonds in the sky

I knew that we'd become one right away
Oh right away
At first sight I felt energy of sun rays
I saw the life inside your eyes

So shine bright tonight you and I
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Eye to eye so alive
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shining bright like a diamond
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shining bright like a diamond
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky

Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
Shine bright like a diamond
So shine bright tonight you and I
We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Eye to eye so alive

We're beautiful like diamonds in the sky
Shine bright like a diamond

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to the song Diamonds by Kanye West and Rihanna feature a range of themes and subjects. Throughout the song, they touch on topics such as materialism, societal norms, relationships, and self-love. The opening lines of the song set the tone for an accusatory diatribe against those who are caught up in the self-inflated and extravagant world of the affluent. Kanye's reference to Illuminati and high society alludes to the sordid reality of those who maintain their lives through corruption and nepotism. His taunt of those who are in the 'in-crowd' mocking them for their shallow existence highlights how those who believe themselves to be above the crowd can only end up becoming lonely.

The chorus of 'Diamonds' pays homage to the beauty and strength of diamonds as natural objects, using them as a metaphor for the powerful relationship between the two protagonists. Their love is compared to diamond's strength and smooth appearance, reflecting how they are not only beautiful but also resilient. The second verse refers to the Luxurious lifestyles of the rich and famous, highlighting the inherent futility of trying to obtain social positions and status symbols. Kanye's ultimate message, however, is that he doesn't care about any of that but chooses to live freely and indulge himself.

Overall, 'Diamonds' is a powerful anthem for self-love, self-indulgence, and non-conformity. It stands as a defiant stance against the rigid and oppressive societal expectations and norms of people that we sometimes forget the importance of happiness and personal well-being. It is a song that uplifts, inspires and reminds us to stay true to our unique selves.

If you've listened through the album, most of the songs have the beat completely overpowered the words, dissapointed me a little cause if I wanted to hear the beat i have the separate beats to the remixes. :/
