Ratcat formed in 1986 in Sydney and were a mainstay of that city's live music scene until they were eventually signed to Waterfront Records where they released a self-titled EP, several singles ("I Think I Love You", "Baby's Got A Gun") and their debut album, This Nightmare in 1989. Another EP, Killing Joke, and another single, "Saying Goodbye" followed.
In 1990, the band signed to the rooArt label. Their first release for their new label was a 6-track EP called Tingles. A combination of budget pricing and catchy A-side "That Aint Bad" saw the Tingles EP reach #1 on ARIA's alternative charts, and shortly afterwards, the top of the Australian national chart. The band's subsequent album, Blind Love and the singles "Don't Go Now" both reached #1. Their next single "Baby Baby" and a follow-up album Insideout sold well, but not to the extent of their previous successes. The band sporadically played live shows over the next few years and released another album Easyrider in 1997.
Ratcat reformed in 1998 to play at the Homebake Festival with new bassist Nic Dalton (formerly of The Lemonheads) and again in 2006 to play a support slot on the Psychedelic Furs Australian tour.

Sick Of Being Down
Ratcat Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Oh Baby baby, has the cat got your tongue?
Your sitting there so quiet,
What is going on?
Oh Baby baby, has the cat got your tongue?
Looking at me so quiet,
What have I done wrong?
I'm so sick and tired, of being down.
Rise little summer sunshine,
Your're making me happy.
Wanna be happy,
Gonna be happy.
Oh Baby baby, what's with all the frown?
Gotta keep that pretty face smiling,
Sorrow knocked you round.
Oh Baby baby, what's with all the frown?
Gotta keep that pretty face smiling,
Sorrow knocked you round.
I'm so sick and tired, of being down.
Rise little summer sunshine,
Your're making me happy.
Wanna be happy,
Gonna be happy....... :-)
Oh Baby baby, if the rain is falling down.
Gotta keep my head out of water,
Head up not to drown.
Oh Baby baby, come blow me away.
Gotta keep my two feet on the ground,
Gonna keep my head peddling the wind.
I'm so sick and tired, of being down.
Rise little summer sunshine,
You're making me happy....... *Smile*
Wanna be happy,
Gonna be happy....... :-) (*2)
Wanna be happy, Gonna be Happy..
The lyrics to Ratcatβs song βSick of Being Downβ speaks about someone trying to uplift a partner or friend who seems to be feeling down or sad. The lyrics use the metaphor of the cat having the personβs tongue, indicating a lack of desire to communicate. The singer expresses frustration with the lack of response and tries to coax the person into expressing themselves. The lyrics also promote positivity and the idea that one can choose to be happy. The lines βRise little summer sunshine, you're making me happy. Wanna be happy, gonna be happyβ suggest that even in difficult times, one can choose to focus on the good things.
The repetition of the phrase βI'm so sick and tired, of being downβ reinforces the theme of the song which is about feeling stuck in a low mood and wanting to break free from it. The use of the words like βclownβ, βfrownβ and βsorrowβ highlights the negative emotions associated with feeling down. The singer acknowledges the difficulties that the other person is facing and encourages them to keep pushing through it.

A lot of the epic songs which are on the CD are cut from this concert.... why?
@vicsmusic
Good question. Sadly the live CD was more of an EP, so it was cheaper to buy. It really should have been the whole show, along with live video release.
