His debut project Indigo Child, was released in August 2014 and signed to Columbia Records the same year for a full release in 2015. Raury described Indigo Child as "written from the viewpoint of a young kid who was looked down upon, was an underdog, and was uprising. It's a really youthful project, and the next will be about that same kid that found success and is happy about it."
Raury came fourth in the BBC's "Sound of 2015", which highlights emerging artists for the year ahead.

Souls, souls
C'mon, lost souls
Ah-ooo
It's you, and you
And you, and you
And you, and you
And you, and you
Why am I here? Who could I be?
Could I be the hero? Could I be the villain?
Trying to be productive, trying to make a living
Inside this world, somehow I do
Looking at the glass, ceiling reminiscing, pistol in my hand, hatred in my heart
I'm sorry for, painting that view
View of violence, into your subconscious, what the TV does too
I mean who could you blame?
I mean who could you blame?
'Cause
Ooh-oh
Trapped in the vine
Feel left behind
Moon walking for, what you losing your mind?
You're losing your mind
C'mon, lost souls
Souls, souls, souls
C'mon, lost souls
Ah-ooo
It's you, and you
And you, and you
And you, and you
And you, and you
The song "Lost Souls" by Raury is a reflection of the struggles that people face in trying to find meaning in their lives. The opening lines, "C'mon, lost souls, Souls, souls," suggest that the song is an invitation to lost souls to come together and find comfort in their shared struggles. The repetition of the same phrase emphasizes the need for a sense of community and belonging.
The next lines, "Why am I here? Who could I be? Could I be the hero? Could I be the villain?" shows the confusion and uncertainty that many people feel about their place in the world. The mention of being a hero or a villain suggests the desire to make a difference but also the fear of failing or being judged. The lines "Looking at the glass, ceiling reminiscing, pistol in my hand, hatred in my heart" convey a sense of frustration and hopelessness. However, the following line "I'm sorry for painting that view, view of violence, into your subconscious, what the TV does too" suggests a sense of responsibility and remorse for contributing to the negative portrayal of the world.
In the chorus, "Trapped in the vine, Feel left behind, Moon walking for what you losing your mind?" Raury refers to being trapped and feeling left behind by society. The phrase "moon walking" suggests the feeling of going through life backwards or without direction. The repetition of the phrase "lost souls" in the chorus emphasizes the need for connection and empathy.
