Bio:
After teaching overseas in the Marshall Islands, Chris Cunningham returned to Seattle in 2008 and met Brantley Duke, a local record engineer and musician. Within two months of their introduction, the pair began writing and playing music together. They shared a common interest in darker sounding melodies combined with intricate vocal harmonies.
In the spring of 2009, a talented Seattle drummer by the name of Matt Badger was introduced to Chris at a show. After a 5 minute conversation, Matt was invited to join the project.
The trio spent the summer of ‘09 practicing and writing together, then began recording what would become their first full-length, a 14 track album titled “Demons and Lakes.”
Since the album’s release in January 2010, Ravenna Woods has been enjoying a large amount of local support, consistent airplay on Seattle’s KEXP 90.3, and very favorable press (local and international).
Ravenna Woods was awarded the title of ‘Best Acoustic Indie Band of 2010’ by Seattle Magazine, and got voted into KEXPs top 90 albums of 2010.
Ravenna is currently wrapping up their upcoming effort – “Valley of the Headless Men.”
The sound can best be described as innovative acoustic indie music that weaves together haunting vocal harmonies, complex finger picking, and unconventional percussion into complex song structures.
In the World
Ravenna Woods Lyrics

And I know just how…. to find you.
Your guns, your money’s taken many lives, in the world, in the world.
Revenge, and murder’s marching through the night – to your door, to your door…
I’ve got a silver bullet with your name engraved right on it
And I know just how…. to find you.
The dancing lights of the fire are reflected in the dark staring blank eyes of a shark
That’s always moving closer – No – that’s close enough!
And fight for from time to time, moving from his birth until he is dead.
The time has come to meet you where you stand, in the world, in the world.
My friends, my neighbors – call to everyone (!) that you know, that you know.
Oo-oooo-ooooo-oooooo we will fall, we will fall
Oooooooooooooooooooo this I know, that I know…
The lyrics of Ravenna Woods's song In the World are full of intense and dark imagery, conveying a sense of danger, revenge, and violence. The opening lines, "I've got a silver bullet with your name engraved right on it, and I know just how to find you," suggest that the singer is seeking vengeance against someone who has caused harm, possibly through violence or by taking lives for money. This idea is reinforced by the next line, "Your guns, your money's taken many lives, in the world, in the world," which implies that the target of the singer's ire is a criminal or someone who has brought harm to others for personal gain.
As the song progresses, the lyrics become even more intense, with the singer describing murder and revenge "marching through the night" and coming to the target's door. The image of the shark with "staring blank eyes" moving relentlessly closer also adds to the sense of impending danger and violence. The lyrics then shift to a more hopeful tone, with the singer rallying their friends and neighbors to take action: "The time has come to meet you where you stand, in the world, in the world. My friends, my neighbors – call to everyone (!) that you know, that you know."
Overall, the lyrics of In the World are powerful and evocative, painting a vivid picture of a world full of danger and violence, but also of people coming together to fight against it.
