Last Dance
Raveonettes The Lyrics

Your lipstick
Smeared beside
I adore you
I always have
And every time you overdose
I rush to intensive care
Another said I stare
Before you disappear

If this is the last dance, this is the last dance
Then, save it me baby
If this is the last dance, this is the last dance
Then, save it me baby

Ooh, ooh
Then save it for me baby
Ooh, ooh
Then, save it me baby

Your addiction
And you are in love
Not star crossed
I wait my turn
And every time you overdoes
I rush to Intensive Care
Another said I stare
Before you disappear

If this is the last dance, this is the last dance
Then, save it me baby
If this is the last dance, this is the last dance
Then, save it me baby

Ooh, ooh
Then save it for me baby
Ooh, ooh
Then, save it for me baby

I wanna know, I wanna know
If it's the last, if it's the last
Dance
I wanna know, I wanna know
Baby, baby, please

If this is the last dance, this is the last dance
Then, save it me baby
If this is the last dance, this is the last dance
Then, save it me baby

Ooh
Then save it for me baby

Ooh (This is the last dance, this is the last dance)
Then, save it for me baby

Overall Meaning

The Raveonettes' song "Last Dance" captures the complicated relationship between the singer and the person they love, who is struggling with addiction. The lyrics open with the singer observing the aftermath of a drug overdose, with lipstick smudged by the person's side. Despite the destructive nature of the addiction, the singer affirms their love for the person, declaring "I adore you, I always have." Every time the person overdoses, the singer rushes to intensive care, indicating a pattern of breaking and repairing the relationship. The singer also notes that others see them staring at the person as they fade away, perhaps suggesting that the relationship is an open secret or that the addiction is a public affair.

The chorus of the song begs the person to "save the last dance for me." This could have a few interpretations - one, it could be a request for a final moment of closeness before the person overdoses and potentially dies. Two, it could be an appeal to make the most of the time they have left before the person's addiction destroys the relationship for good. Either way, the singer is pleading with the person to hold onto love and connection in the face of destruction.

Overall, "Last Dance" is a poignant depiction of a tumultuous relationship, grappling with addiction, love, and loss.

This track came already installed on an mp3 player I bought, and it's the only one I wouldn't consider deleting. What a sweet song. The video is corny but cute and fun. Glad to finally hear The Raveonettes.

You must have bought a Sandisk like me. Mine had this song too, and I really liked it.
