As a vocalist, Charles, along with Julia Rinker Miller, is known for singing the theme song to the television series Three's Company ("Come and Knock on Our Door"). As a songwriter, Charles is known for "Letters, We Get Letters,"[2] originally written for The Perry Como Show and later used on The Late Show with David Letterman. At the age of 89 years, he continues to serve as a musical consultant to television programs, most notably for the last 24 years on the Kennedy Center Honors. Charles is acknowledged as an authority on American popular music.

I witness true love to this song. I was born 1957 and this music was played in our house all the time. I love it. my mom and dad dancing to this on their 65th wedding anniversary.
The thing was my dad was laying in a ICU BED and my mom was standing next to him. Dad had been taken off the ventilator that morning. The doctor had mentioned that every girl want to be kissed on the lips on their anniversary. So he granted my mom that wish. We even played the song on a cassette tape. My dad passed away 2 Days Later. So every time I hear this song I will get a clear Vivid picture of them being cheek to cheek. I failed to mention there were wasn't a dry eyes, in the ICU unit.

This reminds me when I was a child and my parents would put this record on their Sears Silvertone record player. My dad played sax and always admired Ray Charles' music.

This song doesn't remind me of my parents, whom are both deceased at well. Yet, there was a song that did. It was When Your Old Wedding Ring Was New, which about 20 years ago I dedicated to my Mom and Dad, as their song. My dad left in 2009, while Mom was 2017. I had been down with some severe bleeding while my Mom was in the hospital her last 17 days. At a certain point, she and I were both in separate emergency rooms, side-by-side, with us each separately driving there. Me, on my own, her by ambulance from a rehab place she was staying inbetween all the hospital stops. So after I left emergency I had to take like a week off from being there with her. A week later, I drove into the new rehab place for the first time, and that song played on the radio. As it did, I thought, Oh no, does this mean Mom will die today? Yes, she died three hours later.

So sorry for your loss. Glad you got to visit with her before she left. When I lost my Dad 11 years ago I was in a lot of pain and anguish, but no one knew the extent because, I'm a good actress. Now, while I still miss him, the pain doesn't seem to be there anymore. Probably because I have had to deal with other situations which needed by attention and action. My Dad had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and the way of salvation, so he is in a better place. Someday I will see him. My best to you Charles and thank you for sharing.@@charles2241

Ah...music...the glue which binds us to our memories. I am pushing towards 77 years old, and the songs that spoke to my generation during the late fifties, sixties, and seventies have resonated for so long in our hearts. Like this lovely song by the Ray Charles Singers, and all of the great and memorable groups of the era, we individually attach momentous occasions to them, and link them together. I suppose the music of today, groups I do not know, connect to youth, as our songs did, but somehow, at least in my mind, the great Renaissance of music in this country and abroad took place mostly from the late fifties to the decade of the sixties. In any case, good music always moves us, and we remember certain times in our lives, and the songs that touched us.

Chris Mulwee Yes Charles was musical director for the show and was tasked with teaching the 3 stars to sing the song. When the producer asked how things were coming, Charles tried to be tactful, but when their tape was viewed, the producer said, wow these guys are horrible and asked Charles, who began as a singer on radio, to do the honors.

Charles worked on many TV programs, most notably with Perry Como, and put together a group of singers to back up Mr. C., who gave the group their official name.

Years later when he was honored at the Kennedy Center, he was introduced to then President Reagan. Upon meeting Charles, Reagan quipped, Never knew you came in two colors.
