Frosty The Snowman
Ray Coniff and the Singers Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Frosty the Snowman was a jolly happy soul
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
And two eyes made out of coal

Frosty the Snowman is a fairy tale they say
He was made of snow, but the children know
How he came to life one day
There must have been some magic in
The old silk hat they found

For when they placed it on his head
He began to dance around

Oh, Frosty the Snowman was alive as he could be
And the children say he could laugh and play
Just the same as you and me, Ahh

Frosty the Snowman knew the sun was hot that day
So he said let's run, and we'll have some fun
Now before I melt away
Down to the village with a broomstick in his hand
Running here and there all around the square
Saying catch me if you can

He led them down the streets of town
Right to the traffic cop

And he only paused a moment
When he heard him holler, Stop

For Frosty the Snowman had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye saying don't you cry

I'll be back again someday
I'll be back again someday

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Frosty the Snowman" tell the story of a magical snowman who is brought to life by an old silk hat. He is described as a "jolly happy soul" with a corncob pipe and a button nose, and he quickly becomes a beloved friend to the children who created him. He dances and plays with them, but he also has a sense of responsibility and knows that he must avoid the sun, which will cause him to melt. Despite this, Frosty leads the children on a joyful escapade through the village, with the hope of returning again someday.

The song is a classic Christmas tune that has been popular for generations, and it embodies the sense of joy and wonder that is often associated with the holiday season. The lyrics themselves are simple and catchy, making it easy for children to sing along and remember. However, there is also a deeper theme at work, as the story of Frosty celebrates the power of imagination and the ability to bring joy and happiness to others.

My Mom loved Ray Conniff and all his "peppy" music over the years. She had all of his record albums. This was one of her favorite Christmas time songs. It's a genuine classic! I think it's that 4/4 beat to the song she liked the most.
