For All We Know
Ray Conniff Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Love, look at the two of us
Strangers in many ways
We've got a lifetime to share
So much to say
And as we go
From day to day
I'll feel you close to me
But time alone will tell
Let's take a lifetime to say,
"I knew you well"
For only time will tell us so
And love may grow
For all we know

Love, look at the two of us
Strangers in many ways
Let's take a lifetime to say
"I knew you well"
For only time will tell us so

And love may grow
For all we know.

Overall Meaning

The song "For All We Know" by Ray Conniff is a beautiful tribute to love and the uncertainty that comes with it. The first verse talks about two people who may seem like strangers to each other in many ways, but who have a lifetime to share and so much to say. The second verse urges the two to take a lifetime to get to know each other well, for only time will tell if their love will grow. The chorus emphasizes the uncertainty of love, and suggests that anything is possible - love may grow, but it may also fade away.

The lyrics are carefully crafted to convey a sense of optimism, tempered with the knowledge that love is always a risk. The lines "Love, look at the two of us / Strangers in many ways" are particularly poignant, highlighting the fact that no matter how close two people may be, there will always be a certain amount of mystery and unpredictability in their relationship. The song acknowledges this fact, but also encourages the listener to take a leap of faith and trust in the power of love.

Overall, "For All We Know" is a beautiful and heartfelt song that captures the essence of love and the uncertainty that comes with it.

I think of Ray Moore every time I hear this. He always played it as the last track on his morning show before taking a break. A hugely underrated presenter.
