One
Ray Conniff Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

One is the loneliest number
That you'll ever do two can be as bad as one
It's the loneliest number since the number one

No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes it's the saddest experience you'll ever know
Because one is the loneliest number that you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number that you'll ever know

It's just no good anymore
Since you went away
Now I spend my time
Just making rhymes of yesterday

Because one is the loneliest number
That you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number
That you'll ever know

One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
One is the loneliest number
That you'll ever do
One is the loneliest number
Much, much worse than two

One is the number divided by two
One is the loneliest number

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ray Conniff's song One describe the feeling of loneliness that comes with being single and alone. The first verse talks about how being alone is the loneliest thing, and having just one other person can make a big difference. However, the chorus takes a darker turn, suggesting that saying "no" to a potential partner is even more painful than being alone. The second verse describes how the singer has been affected by loneliness, and how they now spend their time looking back on happier times.

The repetition of the phrase "one is the loneliest number" throughout the song emphasizes the feeling of isolation and the despair that comes with it. The lyrics suggest that even the smallest bit of companionship can alleviate this feeling, and that being alone is truly the saddest experience one can have. Overall, the song paints a bleak picture of loneliness and the struggle to cope with it.

One
Singular sensation
Ev'ry little step she takes.
One
Thrilling combination
Ev'ry move that she makes.
One smile and suddenly nobody else will do.
You know you'll never be lonely
With you-know-who.
One moment in her presence
And you can forget the rest,
For the girl is second best to none, son.
Ooh! Sigh! Give her your attention.
Do I really have to mention
She's the one?

Se me hace que debe haber sido la mejor actuacion y presentacion de todas las hechas porel maestro con su orquesta y coro

@marcosequidad4056

Todas las actuaciones del maestro son buenas. Escuché una de los años 70s también muy buena

What brilliant music, I had a chance to see Ray Conniff at a concert in Clacton Essex in the 70s but at the last minute was unable to change working shifts so, was unable to attend the Concert, one of my biggest regrets in life, thanks Ray for your great talent, you will never be forgotten. So close yet so far. I would carry a little regret if it happened to me. I used to enjoy Ran Conniff's group back in the 50's, 60's and anytime I'd hear them. I am DELIGHTED to see some of the videos on youtube. The singers appear to be really enjoying their own performance too.
