Love Ya Son Go Dawgs
Ray Fulcher Lyrics

Hey buddy, it's me
I thought I'd give you a call
Looks like ya been busy
I've been keeping up with y'all
I saw a couple of your buddies at a fish fry
Sat around and talked about the old days the whole nine

Na there ain't much going on
It's been pretty quiet back home

The weather's been good
But it could rain a little more
I finally got tired of it sitting out back
And I sold that Ford
The preacher left us for a bigger church over in Savannah
I think me and Uncle Joe gonna try to make the show in Atlanta
That coach up in Athens got them boys playing pretty good ball
Anyway, I love ya son, go Dawgs

Somewhere in the middle of way too many voicemails
There's one that says Daddy and it never fails
To remind me of that little town
Cause when the crowd is gone and the lights are out
I'm just an old boy from GA
That still loves to hear his daddy say

The weather's been good
But it could rain a little more
I finally got tired of it sitting out back
And I sold that Ford
The preacher left us for a bigger church over in Savannah
I think me and Uncle Joe gonna try to make the show in Atlanta
That coach up in Athens got them boys playing pretty good ball
Anyway, I love ya son go, Dawgs

Na there ain't much going on
It's been pretty quiet back home

The weather's been good
But it could rain a little more
I finally got tired of it sitting out back
And I sold that Ford
The preacher left us for a bigger church over in Savannah
I think me and Uncle Joe gonna try to make the show in Atlanta
That coach up in Athens got them boys playing pretty good ball

Anyway, love ya son, go Dawgs
Anyway, love ya son, go Dawgs

Overall Meaning

The song "Love Ya Son Go Dawgs" by Ray Fulcher tells the story of a father reaching out to his son and updating him on the happenings in his hometown. The father starts the conversation by acknowledging the busyness surrounding his son's life and mentions how he's been keeping tabs on his activities. Later on in the song, he shares with his son about the changes that took place in their small town, including the preacher leaving for a bigger church and the father selling his truck. Amidst all these changes, the father still shows his love for his son by mentioning how the coach of the Athens football team is doing an excellent job coaching his team, and he encourages his son to support them by saying "love ya son go Dawgs".

Overall, the song depicts both an affectionate relationship between a father and son, despite not being able to see each other often, and a love for their hometown and its football team.

One interesting fact about the song is that it was inspired by the real-life relationship between Fulcher and his father. The song was written on a trip back home to Georgia to visit his father and attend a University of Georgia football game. Another interesting fact is that the song became quite popular amongst Georgia Bulldog football fans and was even played before games at Sanford Stadium.

Lost my Dad two years ago on November 3rd. This song really hits home. I wish I could watch a Georgia football game with him and hear him say "GO DAWGS!" just one more time! Spend time with your parents. One day they won't be here to spend time with....and GO DAWGS!!!!

@DawgNTexas

I’m right there with ya. My Dad passed a couple of years ago. Didn’t even make it to 50. He was a Florida and Bama fan but I loved him all the same. Go Dawgs!

Right there with you. Lost my dad November 22nd 2015 and would've done anything to watch that National Championship win with him, but I had a few drinks and paced watching like we always did together and celebrated with my mom. I definitely know that loved watching down on it listening to Larry Munson call that ballgame. Go Dawgs!!

@jillkirkland3003

I’m lost my dad on November 3, 2015. Every fall, there’s a bit more tug on my heart as GA football season begins. We watched more games together than I could ever count. I’m a bit jealous of him over the Natty. You know Munson was calling the game like never before. I’m a 3rd generation alumni. I graduated in 1991, my mother graduated in 1971, and her father graduated in 1932. My parents met at UGA. I was 5 weeks old when my mother’s last fall quarter in pharmacy school began. She told my dad she was taking that quarter off since I was too little to leave with someone. He quickly told her she was to go to school and let him worry about who would take care of me. He said if you’re not enrolled in school, we don’t get our free student football tickets! And that was that!

@kennyking3255

@Jill Kirkland Sorry for your loss. My mom passed away in June of 2014. Both my mom and dad worked for UGA and retired from there. I began working there in 2003. In July I'll have 19 years in. One day while driving downtown with my wife, we passed the arch and I told her that I felt as many years as I had worked for UGA I'd earned the right to walk through the arch like a graduate. She was "OH NO...if you walk through the arch and are not a graduate you'll be cursed!" I asked so what is "the curse". She said "you'd never have any children". I'm 52. We have 2 daughters. I said "Good. I'll walk through the thing 3 times. Cheaper than a vasectomy. Go Dawgs." That was about the first time I've ever seen her speechless!! I agree, Larry Munson was calling that game and would have been something to hear. I seen a comment on another post that someone said that heaven was short one "metal steel chair".
