Come On Little Mama
Ray Harris Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well the night's still young, twelve o'clock
Me and my baby's gonna rock, rock, rock
Come on little baby, come on sweet mama
Come on little baby, everybody's rockin' tonight
Curled up my breecher pants to my knees
Mama, mama play house with me
Come on, come on
Come on little baby, everybody's rockin' tonight

Go down to Jo's, put a record on
There we're rockin' nearly all night long
Come on, come on
Come on little baby, everybody's rockin' tonight
Gonna hold, hold, hold you baby
Gonna love, love, love you honey
Gonnan kiss, kiss, kiss you baby
Gonna squeeze, squeeze, squeeze you baby
Come on little baby, we'll have a ball tonight

Watch me heave, watch me haul
That cat knows what rocking's about
Come on, come on
Come on little baby, everybody's rockin' tonight
Don't go fishing, have a good time
Get your woman and I'll call the wine
Come on, come on
Come on little baby, everybody's rockin' tonight
Gonna love, love, love you honey
Gonnan kiss, kiss, kiss you baby
Gonna squeeze, squeeze, squeeze you honey

Gonna love, love, love you baby
Come on little baby, we'll have a ball tonight

Overall Meaning

The song "Come On Little Mama" by Ray Harris can be interpreted as an invitation to a girl to go out dancing and have a good time. The lyrics suggest a carefree and fun atmosphere where everyone is enjoying themselves. The singer starts by saying that it is still early, and he and his partner are ready to party. He invites the girl to join them, calling her "little baby" and "sweet mama." The repetition of the phrase "Come on" emphasizes his eagerness for her to join in the revelry. The lyrics then describe the singer's appearance, with his pants rolled up to his knees, suggesting that he is ready to move and dance. He continues to playfully flirt with the girl, asking her to "play house" with him.

The second part of the song describes going to a place called "Jo's" and turning up the music. The singer promises to hold, love, kiss, and squeeze the girl as they dance the night away. Throughout the song, the singer emphasizes the need to have a good time, encouraging the girl not to go fishing but instead to "have a good time" with him. The lyrics create a feeling of excitement and joy, emphasizing the importance of letting loose and enjoying the moment.

"Pull my britches down to my knees, mama, mama play house with me".
This AIN'T 'YO Gran'daddy's Elvis. Hell, this AIN'T EVEN 'YO mama's Jerry Lee Lewis!
THIS, Ladies, is- "We ARE gonna FUCK, RAT' NOW, not talk about it, snuggle, squeeze, NUTTIN'.WE ARE DOIN' IT HERE AND NOW!''
Seventy or so years to this point[1956] of polite romantic euphemisms in song are rendered forever obsolete with one declarative sentence. Again,Elvis,Lewis, every Black/Race record ever made, throw them out. This is the future. And hide ALL
the women.............maybe some of the men.too.
We now pause to let the following incredible facts follow:
Sam Phillips, obviously seeing BATSHIT CRAZY at a level only his refined senses could detect, recorded AND RELEASED this,uh,epic.
And later found in Sonny Burgess, a similar delivery and intimacy, little heard before or since. But that is the Sam/Sonny/Sun story, for a later time.......................
The singer[?]/composer, along with Quinton Claunch, Joe Cuoghi and others shortly thereafter founded HI Records, quite successfully going on to record such acts as Bill Black, Gene Simmons [the original , not the tonguemeister], OV Wright, and the early stylings of Al Green among others before selling out to Willie Mitchell for $22,000.00. on the cusp of the 1970's.
Harris was later rumored to have been aligned with a particular fraternal organization, once much revered in regions who much
revered such organizations in a different [not so different , lately?] time in UH?,Murica..............
If you guessed "What are Rotarians" you are NOT going to the bonus round...........................................
