Bowlly is a good singer, no doubt about it. But I think he is a bit overestimated. There are many other very good male singers from this period.

No, he is one of the most well-known crooners of his era. He is especially known for "Midnight, The Stars And You" and "The Very Thought Of You" by younger listeners (mainly because of The Shining). The rest of the crooners of the 20s and 30s (especially anyone famous from before the 20s) are neglected. Stuart Allen, Smith Ballew, Joey Nash, Ray Eberle, Chick Bullock, Irving Kaufman, Dick Powell, Scrappy Lamert, Sam Browne, Will Osborne, (even Paul Whiteman era) Bing, to name a few.

Al had a tragic end.After ww2 began German bombers dropped many bombs on English cities including London.On.night Al who had a flat in central London visited a friend out of town.He stayed late and the friend said he could stay the night Al wanted to get home.During the night a German bomber dropped.bombs on his flat.
