Golden Touch-Razorlight
Razorlight Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know a girl with the golden touch
She's got enough, she's got too much
But I know, you wouldn't mind
You could have it all if you wanted
You could have it all if it mattered so much

[Chorus]
But then all they know is how to put you down
When you're there, they're your friend
But then when you're not around
They say, "Oh, she's changed"
We know what they mean
Well they mean, they're just jealous
Because they never do the things
That they wish that they could do so well

That kind of girl, yes she's never alone
You leave a thousand messages on her phone
But you know you never get through
And you could have it all if you wanted, girl
You could have it all if it matters to you

[Chorus]

I saw my girl with the golden touch
Give 'em a taste but not too much
I just can't listen to the words of fools
I don't give away too much
Someone will need your golden touch

[Chorus: x2]

Overall Meaning

The song "Golden Touch" by Razorlight is about a girl who seems to have it all: the looks, the charm, the charisma, and the fame. The singer of the song is enamored by her and wants to be with her but is also aware of how she is perceived by others. It appears that the girl may be too good for the singer or anyone else for that matter. The chorus of the song touches upon the idea that people can be two-faced and can attempt to bring you down when you are not around. The singer recognizes this but also understands that those people are just jealous of the girl's success and popularity.

The song is a commentary on how society tends to put people on a pedestal and then tear them down. The girl in the song is placed on a pedestal because of her golden touch, her talent or success, and her attractiveness. But with that pedestal comes the expectation that she will be perfect, and any misstep or deviation from that perfection could lead to a fall from grace. The singer seems to understand that the girl is just human and has her own flaws and insecurities.

Overall, "Golden Touch" is a catchy and upbeat song that explores the themes of fame, envy, and the pressure of being in the public eye.

This song sounded absolutely incredible way back in the day, and it still sounds just as incredible today.

Johnny's vocals were outstanding, and so was the music.

In my own opinion, Razorlight were a band that should of achieved far more recognision and success then they recieved.

A very very underrated band.

The indie scene back then was absolutely thriving with so many different bands bringing us quality offerings.

Glad I was part of this era. Puts todays music to shame

That was a fantastic year for music. Mr Brightside by The Killers, Take me Out by Franz Ferdinand, The Bucket by Kings of Leon, Cant Stand me Now and What became of the Likely Lads by The Libertines, I Predict a Riot by Kaiser Chiefs, Banquet by Block Party, Reptilia by The Strokes to name a few. Good memories
